wernt these calzaghes two last fights....at a higher weight...he moved up...ward brings them down :rofl ....look at dawson...ill fight you....if you come down....and fight in joakland....in front of 37 people.....plus ward got dropped by Boone hahahahahaha

 

Calzaghe openly stated that he didn't want tough fights and that he was not chasing Roy Jones, so I don't know why people even debate this.

The Lacy and Kessler fights happened because Frank W pushed for them. Frank W had been booted off Skysports because no one was tuning in to watch Calzaghe fights anymore, so he got a deal with ITV on the promise that he would deliver big fight and with Calzaghe coming to the end of his career this now made sense and it was time to cash out.

The fact remains that Calzaghe was more than happy to spend the bulk of his career at home, in his comfort zone defending an alphabet strap against the likes of Will McIntyre and Rick Thornberry.

 

what was the point in chasing? collins chased him all over the usa...called him out after his own fights and he still didnt get the fight.

 

That excuse seemed legit up until Hopkins' next fight where he schooled Pavlik. He then went on to beat Pascal and Cloud. Past prime? perhaps, but Calzaghe's win over Hopkins is a very good one that keeps getting better with Hopkins' age.

Theres no fact here just your obvious bias. Tell me when has Jones Jr or Hopkins left their shores( aka comfort zone) and dont use that lame excuse of they didnt need too cos of living in the US, the same is happening right now with Ward.

So in 2003 the fight was signed with hopkins to fight in America that dont look like Calzaghe didnt want to fight the top guys. Jones stated that he didnt fight Calzaghe because of the High risk low reward status, so theres blame on both sides.

I think he had a great career, but it could have been better. He passed up the opportunity of going to the States in his late 20's, and he struggled to make weight in a weak division. He could have fought at 175 sooner. He had the talent, but not the desire.

But I still respect what he accomplished.

 

At the time, Collins was a retired former 168 fighter. If Joe had've fought at 175, and impressed in America, then that could have been a big fight.

You're forgetting that boxing is a business. It's ok saying that Roy didn't want Collins, but neither did HBO at the time.

There was simply no interest in making a Collins fight. Joe had the potential of being Roy's exciting younger rival.

The opportunity was there for Joe, but he wasn't interested. He should have gone to America, as soon as he couldn't get the Ottke fight to unify at 168.

 

Completely different circumstances.

Collins had retired through injury.

Joe was the exciting, good looking southpaw, that was new on the scene.

 

Oosthuize? Groves? Anthony Dirrell? Who are they? How do they have any claim to being the divisions best?

Stieglitz lost to Abraham who Ward beat. Bute lost to Froch who Ward beat. Andre Dirrell lost narrowly over 12 rounds to Carl Froch, where is he? How can he claim to be the divisions best? Who has he been fighting for 3 years?

Ward is probably the nearest thing you can get to an undisputed champion of his division, he's beat the guys that beat guys that beat the rest. Sure, it'd have slightly more gloss on had he be the one to take Bute apart, but the way Froch handled Bute and the way Ward handled Froch shows that Bute is the grandkiddy of the three. And Ward is the kingpin above the rest.
