This kid is the real deal. Sublime skillset, tight defense, good chin and decent pop in his punches. I think he is a future p4p-er.

He looked great against prescott, and he's got huge potential but it's way too early to say he beats any top 140 lb'er

    Not always. :yep

I take it you haven't seen too much of him before his recent breakout.

Got an example for me? I admit, I've seen only the Presscott fight and some clips from other fights. I know Prescott isn't Roy Jones or anything, but he can be dangerous and I thought Crawford show a really solid defense.

I first saw him against Angel Rios on the Gamboa vs. Ponce De Leon undercard and his defense was porous. Like, laughable. Rios was fat and slow and uncoordinated and tagged Crawford up with ease. It didn't matter, because he was battering Rios in return and unaffected by his punches, and ultimately pitched a shutout on my card and the judges'. He looked equally hittable in his next few outings against middling foes.

Granted, he did shape up and mind his p's and q's with Prescott - having probably done his homework and due diligence and realizing this isn't someone you wade into the pocket with cavalierly in the hopes that your own shots will be all that matter. It was the first time I've ever seen Crawford make a concerted effort to disallow enemy penetration. Prescott did still get through, and showed what I long suspected (precisely because of his often terrible, lazy D) but could not yet confirm due the low quality of competition - that Crawford does have very good whiskers, perhaps driving his previous recklessness in not giving a **** and recognizing when the man in front of him was as gormless as they were scared of him after he got in his first touch, if not before.

Until now, it's been a very lazy attitude of "So what if they hit me? I can take it...", with any slickness on display purely for showboating purposes rather than practical means - and now having felt another class of power he might start to change that philosophy...but he doesn't have a lot of experience boxing defensively. He is accustomed to having it all his way against physically outmatched victims.

He has the style to give anyone at 140 fits. He has great skills and good pop he will be avoided like the plague.

    Great offensive skills. ;)

Like I said, he only recently took his newly polished D out for a test drive against Prescott. He is still on his learner's permit and needs keep 'em at 10 & 2 with his eyes on the road watching for hard shoulders. :yep

I would currently pick Matthysse, but Crawford despite not having a big name yet would be among the h2h best Matthysse has fought.

In order to beat Lucas you need to stick and move not be stationary and let him load up with power shots. Crawford can do just that.

Really interesting take. I gotta be honest with you, I didn't think Presscott landed **** during their bout. I will have to go back and take a closer look.

Yeah I guess he finally grew up in that fight with Presscott. The guy has great God given ability and for too long just skated by with that alone. Now he's seemed to put it all together and taken the sport seriously. Which is good news for fight fans because I think he can become a great fighter.
