Most 'limited' British champ and world title challenger

  1. This isn't to degrade anyone's achievements but who is the most 'limited' British champ or challenger for a world title you have seen

My experiences are mostly recent but I think Shane mcphilbin was an average pub brawler who managed not only to win a title against Leon williams(another poor holder) but was unlucky against enzo and so was involved in a fight for the vacant belt against Dickinson.unbelievable,3 British title fights the man has massively overachieved

As for the world title challenger for me British wise Audley Harrison and lee purdy were very fortunate to compete at that level, and Damon reed against herbie hide takes some beating and you can add tommy karpency and Shawn hawk to that list

Some seriously average boxers competing in supposedly elite competition

McPhilbin is quite possibly one of the worst fighters I have seen. No, in fact, he is one.

The Enzo fight was farcical and it was only up the road from me aswell! One of the worst fights, but one of the funniest. Mr Blobby. An entrance/walk in of about 5ft to the ring. The fight itself, and then McPhilbin after the fight talking about going on a 10 day binge to make up for his lack of drink intake in training. Terrible. Terrible fighter aswell. Its like watching a pissed up middle aged man every night trying to start something in the pub.

I would say Audley Harrison, but the bloke clearly had skills and a lot of promise as an Am, mentally he just didnt have it, he didnt want to fight at some point in his Pro career, and it was downhill from there. Mentally he gave into it, but carried on for some reason. The only reason I can think of was the money, because he had an unbelievable ability to sell fights.

Hatton was average on the inside I think.

Unless you count fouling and rabbit punching.

He was at his best at mid range, the same sort of range where Pacquiao sometimes looks so brilliant.

His best attribute was his footwork. He was limited at the level he was wanting to operate at, that's probably the fairest view you can come to.

While he was a good fighter some of the things said are wrong especially about great inside game. Hatton was one of the worst inside fighters around all he did was hold and hit thats not inside fighting, its spoiling/mauling

  14. Rob norton another cruiser effective but very ordinary had a jab and some strength and that was his style in a nutshell

Worlds if Stuart hall gets a call from Hobson he would be up there

  15. Bit unfair I think you are taking the 'limited' angle but Rees has good boxing skills and has fought for titles at 2 different weights

Tony bellew falls beneath Rees in my opinion
