He can't be the greatest at this point in his career no matter what he does. He choice to fight for money instead of a legacy and this is the result.

To even be considered near the top of the list he'd have to have fought Pac 3-4 years ago. Then he would have had to be much, much busier, 44-0 isn't anything special. Hell Duran was 71-1 prior to the Leonard fight, and SRR had over 200 fights. So he's lucky to get to the top 15-20 and even that's not guaranteed at this point.

But whether you think so or not, that's a pretty lofty achievement considering how long boxings been around, and consider the likes of Ali, SSR, Charles, Greb, Armstrong, Roy Jones, Joe louis, Sam Langford, Benny Leonard, SRL, just to name a few.

Could of start by fighting and beating the other ATG and p4p king in his era when it mattered most.

Even then, he still wouldn't be the greatest, but it would have elevated his ATG ranking significantly.

Its pretty much impossible for any modern fighters to reach the GOAT status.

I never believed Pacquiao was as great as his fans suggested.

He might not have been, but often in life perception is reality, and he needed to fight him for a couple reasons. One begin to enhance his legacy and secondly t0 promote the sport of boxing and giving the fans what they wanted, when it mattered most.

that is exactly what floyd is lacking. Even if he lost just the courage to have fought the best. The fact he did not fight Manny really affects his legacy. This undefeated stuff doesn't mean that much. It just shows that a guy handpicked his opponents. And fighting Manny now will not mean as much.

Come on 'Pernell Sweet Pea', Pernell Whitaker is greater than Floyd.

The opposition isn't there for him to be GOAT. There are no other great fighters around his weight class except for himself. Even if he fought Tszyu, Pacquiao, and whoever else he supposedly ducked he wouldn't be considered the GOAT or even much higher on the ATG list.

Mayweather magically comes out of retirement? And he is the greatest?

What we have to remember is that professional/ex professional boxers and coaches around the world recognise him as an all time great. Sugar Ray Leonard said he could have fought and hung with guys in any era.

I really don't think the opinions of those blinded by hate matter in recognising his all time great status.

floyd hasn't beat anyone that would merit putting him in the top 50 IMO.

He only breaks my top 50 due to dominance in the fights he did win and for his impressive longevity in the sport.

But he doesn't have any impressive wins that everyone else in the top 50 ATG have. And if that makes me a Hater then i guess thats what i am

And if a ***** is going to reply with a list of all his decent wins, don't bother, I've watched floyds whole career, i know them all.

I agree. I think if he'd managed to make fights with Prime Mosley and Cotto too (But i don't blame floyd for those fights not happening)

Then that would have put him up alot higher.

Also If he could have fought Martinez and Winky at 154 that would have massively boosted it.

Alvarez now could be a good scalp, but as Alvarez is still only 22 we don't know how good he'll end up becoming.

He impressively ducked good opponents to retirement.

There is no defining-, or mega-fight left for him.
