If a white fighter (American) emerged today at 147....

    .... with the talents of, say, I don't know, Brandon Rios or Robert Guerrero or someone of that level.... how popular do you reckon he'd be in the sport? Do you reckon, with the aid of clever matchmaking and the age of 24-7/All Access reality shows, he'd become a superstar in a division where Mayweather is the goal?

    I was just wondering because in a sport where white American participants rarely ever reach world class levels, I'd imagine if one was to break this trend, he'd have a pretty unique audience (there are plenty of white fight fans) he could tap in to which no other fighter could. Kelly Pavlik was the last guy who reached amazing heights, and he managed to spark a lot of attraction the brief time he was at the top. It was just unfortunate that he was born in a division which nowadays doesn't have the notoriety that the current welterweight division does.

    You think there'll ever be a chance of this happening -- in 147 or any other lucrative division -- within the next 10, 20 or 30 years? Or is the talent pool for white American boxers way too dry?

    Thurman's mixed race, I believe (black father, I think). So not quite the white American, Kelly Pavlik fighter I'm looking for.

    I think so, too. People, by and large, have a natural inclination to warm to things/people that have similar characteristics as their own. It's not wrong to do so, which is why promoters happily tap into the Latino, Asian, Black, etc fanbases. Seeing as though white is of course the majority, I'd bet a promising world class white fighter (especially if he holds a trinket) in a hot division would break into a massive fanbase. It would do the sport a massive world of good, in my opinion.

    Beando rios and Guerrero are not on the same level, Robert would beat him 10 times out of 10, Rios is flatfooted brawler with c- skills and A level chin who cant box at all, he would not win more than 3 rounds against Robert(and I'm not Robert fan) but guys here now underestimate Robert because Floyd totally out boxed him, that was done to Rios but by Abril:rofl

    'Mexican' is more a nationality than an ethnicity; it just happens to be the case that most Mexican immigrants to the USA are Amerindian in descent, hence Americans suppose that all Mexicans are ethnically Amerindian. That's false.

    As I posted elsewhere, Mexico is a hodgepodge of ethnicities - northern Mexico is almost wholly 'white', being predominantly Spanish & German in descent.

    True. There are also many many ethnic germans in Brazil, USA or Argentinia.
    White americans are ethnic european. So the statemant that Guerrero is not a white US-american because he is mexican is very strange. You could say this about all americans. One is ethnic german the other is italian.

    His personality, looks and showmanship would have a lot more relevance than his colour! If he had all the above plus he's white, well, look at De La Hoya - , likewise if he had all that and he's black he'd have same popularity - look at Floyd Mayweather, sugar Ray Leonard, etc- very silly question really
