Some Anglo Saxon 'all american' kid from the heartland.

Something like a guy name Jack Matthews, fighting out of Nebraska.

Italian, Irish, Mexican, Russian, ect are all white, but not 'american' white.

Edit: not sure why I added Mexican lol. I guess some mexicans are white...

 

So american white are germans/british people? Damn I am really confused. And what is the difference between an "american white" fighter and an italian white fighter? And why would an "american white" fighter get more attention (if he is a great fighter)?

Let's be honest here dude, a marginally skilled (white) NFL rb Peyton Hillis was the most popular player just a year or two ago before he got injured and lost his starting spot.

Like it was said in the thread, he had all the right criteria, white all American kid from the Midwest/south, was religious, and had an aww shucks attitude. Before u knew it he had the best selling jersey, and won the madden cover vote

Also the same goes for Tim tebow. Not a very skilled player, but from the south and reliious so he gets a huuuuge following

 

You either don't understand the racial dynamics in marketability in American sports (and society in general) or you are being intentionally obtuse.

Either way, this is still simply naive.

Theyre German/British by ethnicity, but more importantly they're descendants of the original pioneers who came over to America and built the country as we know it.

Let's not forget, for the longest time the Irish and Italians were not considered white in America. Just a few decades back, Italian immigrants were looked at like we view the Mexican immigrants today.

With the attention, it goes back to who can relate to what. A good fighter will get a following no matter what, but someone used a brilliant example in this thread with Chael Sonnen

No, you are just holding on to the past and are simple minded to think a fighter will be more popular these days because he is white. Truth is, if it get's down to a black and white thing their is an equal amount of hostility on both sides by a small margin. It's not like it was in the 1960s no matter how much people want to make it out like it is. No matter what race, you pretty much got the same chance to make it big in America as long as you put the work in. Some people come from more fortunate families but other then that, their is no "man" holding a race down.

Brock Lesnar is a freaking beast. Same reason the world has always loved Mike Tyson. People try to hard to pull the race card nowadays. Simple minded people want to blame they are being held down to because of their race and color instead of their laziness, attitude, and lifestyle they try to live.

 

Not quite so naive to think that the sum of my experiences reflects the entirety of the situation. The same goes for citing a few examples.

Tebow had a huge following before he even hit the NFL. Got bigger when he almost-mystically took a team on an eye opening run to make the playoffs on the last day, and then unseat a heavily favored perennial powerhouse in the playoffs. All despite the fact that he was a seriously flawed player. He was a story. He broke into the mainstream media conversation for a while. But ultimately he is a flavor of the month.

Peyton Hillis? Right. I'm sure AP wishes he had the all the allure of Peyton Hillis.

I'm also not saying it makes no difference. But to think it is the only or dominant force at work is silly.
