It's really a shame Froch doesn't have a bigger UK fanbase

A few weeks ago in Cuba I met plenty of folks from the UK of all ages and types, and NONE of them (I'm going to say around a dozen or so) knew who I was talking about when I said they had one of the best boxers in the world in Froch.

It's crazy to me. I would have expected much bigger fanfare for the guy.

One of the best? That's a screwed up p4p list you've going on there.

Out of active boxers only haye and khan are household names in UK. Khan because of his Olympic platform and fighting on terrestrial tv in the early part of his career, and haye because of winning the heavyweight title ( The fight against valuev was marketed well) plus he knows how to sell a fight, beating up people at pressers, conterversial statements etc. But froch is still a big name, he is using the football angle very well by raving about his cities football team in order to bring in the casuals much like ricky hatton and Manchester city. But hes been on a few big tv shows, his profile is certainly better than before, he is getting there

Froch was a relatively late starter, was badly promoted by fat Mick, and didn't have any media hype behind him.
Harrison and Khan were courted by the press from the minute they arrived home from the Olympics. They were then thrust down the publics throats at every given opportunity.
Froch has gone about his business almost unknown to the general public, yet he's acheived far more in the sport than Khan or Harrison.
Khan has lost almost every time he's fought at a decent level, Harrison has done nothing except con TV licence payers and beat doormen and taxi drivers.

I have a feeling Andre Ward suffers a similar fate in the US. The casual fan everywhere doesn't care about resume. They want the entertainment as well as the sport.

If a boxing fan from the UK has not heard of Carl Froch, then they are not serious boxing fans.

He is still very popular. They give him that home decision against Dirrell didn't they. The UK fans hated him when Joe was around due to him being his rival and whatnot.

No, Froch really isn't that popular. Give it a few fights and Anthony Ogogo will be even more popular...

I don't think Froch engages with the media enough.

OK, let me rephrase that. He is clearly a world-class fighter and probably in the top 15-20 p4p for sure.

When he does engage the media, he comes off looking bitter and arrogant.

I've explained my reasoning behind this before but I think it deserves repeating

Frochs lack of popularity is down to his large hooked Jewish nose. A schnoz of this kind has not been seen in England since the days of ***in. Deep rooted, subconscious anti semitism could well be the problem here :think

    Carl who?

Seriously though, I think to be a well known boxer in the UK you either have to of gone down the Olympic route (Khan), have a very good personality (Hatton), or have "the look" (Haye)
