Because its predictable and vintage Matchroom and nothing more than a domestic level scrap. Its a step back for Ricky, Ricky should be looking at the big fights now, he moved to Matchroom to make those fights a reality. If they feed him Rees, he may aswell have stayed with Frank.

Whilst I think it is a laughable fight, its an understandable fight and it makes sense from a Matchroom perspective. Especially after Ricky's fight against Gonzalez. They will want to get him 1-2 more fights before fighting the top guys in the division - a division which is looking increasingly hard for Ricky to make. He looked terrible at the weigh in. This is something I brought up before and I think Billy hinted to it after the Gonzalez fight?

I think they will need to move up sooner rather than later or risk getting defeated because of struggling to get down to the weight and having to kill themselves to do it. Ricky looked ill at that weigh in.

They had Rees, Rees lost to Broner. Eddie the day after said Broner was very talented and would beat up Ricky Burns (this was when Ricky was still a FW fighter) so Rees shouldn't be so downbeat. They signed Ricky Burns, Eddie remained consistent and honest, but changed his tune a bit to "with momentum" regarding a Broner fight. The Rees vs. Burns fight was on everyone's tongue the moment it was announced Burns had signed with Matchroom, and some even said back then that the next fight Ricky would have would be Rees. But Rees was not long of that last fight with Broner, so they fought the mandatory Gonzalez. So fair play.

Rees is definitely a fight on the horizon, its been on the horizon since day one. But IMO its a stupid fight because everything's to lose, nothing to gain. I hope they don't make the fight and Matchroom focus on getting Ricky those big fights that are well over due. Rees is a step back. No two ways about it. Also, you just know that if Burns does a number on Rees, the Broner bummers will be out in force with the "Broner leftovers" allegations, Ricky cant win that fight and neither can Eddie. So its a pointless fight to make, but its a predictable fight to make up in Scotland. Wales vs. Scotland - All the hype to go along with it.

    Vintage Matchroom.

But like I said, whilst I think its a pointless do nothing fight for Ricky. Its understandable for Eddie to want to make a fight or two like that, especially after that Gonzalez fight. So I wouldn't hold that against them. Anybody who knows about boxing, understands why they would want to make that fight. But I reckon Eddie will pull a rabbit out and shock a lot of people by making and CRUCIALLY getting that Vazquez fight on next.

Just by Eddie making and getting that fight on, it gives Eddie another 1-up over the rival promoter, but it also gives Ricky a TRULY world class fight at the weight and his biggest challenge to date. What you think? :good

You failed to answer my question.

I don't see the push to fight Vasquez or Abril. They will beat Burns. Theres a ton of good competitive fights out there fore Burns and I think Gavin Rees is one of them. Its not a step back, just not a step forward. I think its a good fight but I don't think it will happen next.

Burns is levels above Rees its a easy money stay busy fight not a competitive match up at all Eddie will make it next as its the only time he can make it Eddie would be stupid not to make it and we know Eddie ain't stupid .

Sideways step. I'd agree with that, its not completely backwards, but its not forward. It still does nothing for Ricky. Thats the crucial part in all of this.

And I answered your question mate. :good

Its a vintage Matchroom fight. Up in Scotland. Wales vs. Scotland - all the hype. Its like Hatton vs. Brook "War of the Roses" but with a title on the line.

So Vintage Matchroom = Good Promotion?

Fight will probably sell 10,000+ tickets. 250,000 viewers on Sky and it builds Burns towards bigger fights.

    Vintage Matchroom = Cheese Promotion.

But I suppose its good promotion if you are an avid Matchroom supporter. :think

    Good promotion is:

    Tys

    Hatton vs. Mayweather.

Smart promotion, inventive, intuitive, different, fresh promotion.

Matchroom's is just downright basic and predictable.

I mean who'd have thought of "Warriors Call" :think

neither Vasquez or Arbil will beat Ricky please don't judge him on the Gonzalez fight
