A 22 yr old who hasnt cleaned out his division is supposed to validate Floyd's career now. This thread should've been locked 20 pages ago.

How about cleaning out welterweight? That is something that he hasn't done and something that people have been waiting for him to do. Hell people are mad that he hasn't unified before. Floyd adding that to his legacy increases it in my opinion. Longevity increases his legacy as well. Floyd can't make the competition better but he can dominate it while he is still around.

I think he is referring to longevity. For Floyd to be an old man (36 is old in boxing) and still be rated the best while most are not is an accomplishment. The same thing with Hopkins fighting over 20 years. That is an accomplishment as well.

I'd rather see him clean out 147 personally. No guarantee that Canelo goes on to be anything special, so the win may not do as much as people are arguing unless Floyd we're to bomb him out while being at such as size advantage.

if i war floyd and all i cared about was my fighting legacy for the remainder of my career, i would fight canelo next, before he gets any better. i would also sign sergio up for a may fight at 154, i would demand he doesnt face anyone else so he can come in from an injury and a long layoff and i would be the one to dethrone him. all this time i would be pushing broner to clean out the welterweight division so i could face him at the peak of his popularity. i would also be trying to ink a deal with pac so i could prove that i wasnt just talkin ****. now that type of run, which a true atg would be capable of, would actually make a difference in the atg standings.

A Martinez win holds far more weight than Alvarez at this stage. :conf

Dethrone Sergio as what? He isn't a champion at 154. If he fought him at a catchweight then that would be something. But didn't Sergio say that fight would never happen because Floyd signed a career contract with Showtime? I agree about Canelo. I would fight him now if I was Floyd. The question is, what if Canelo turns out to be nothing more than a hypejob? Would that win really hold any weight? It's not like Canelo is the undisputed champion at 154. He hasn't clean out (or even came close) 154. Having Broner do all the work of cleaning out the division. What if Broner takes an L? What if Matthysse moves up and taps that ass? There is a lot of things to consider.

If I were Floyd I would fight Canelo at 154 in Sept. Then I would fight the winner of Matthysse vs Garcia in May. I would fight Timothy Bradley in Sept. If Manny can become relevant again then the dates would change. I would have the Manny fight in Sept and the Bradley fight May 2015. To finish it off I would fight whoever was the most relevant at welter besides Broner. Floyd and Broner are never fighting each other. Maybe a Devon Alexander or Keith Thruman. The crazy thing is that Floyd will have basically cleaned out the division if he beats Bradley, Devon, and the Lucas vs Matthysse winner. Manny got KFTO by Marquez (A person Floyd beat and Marquez doesn't want the rematch). Floyd should be able to clean up welter with no problems.

cleaning out welter with the names you mentioned, doesnt mean anything, because, again, floyd is not fighting the best challenges in terms of legacy. pac did not get blown out in his fight with marquez, he was laying down a nice little beat down before his lapse in concentration, he would still be the best name floyd can add to his welterweight resume. if broner keeps winning, floyd would not be able to avoid fighting him and claim he fought the best available. all the 140 lb fighters dont do anything for him, he already did better with hatton and natquez. ckeaning out a divison only really means something when theres some really tough dirt to clean out. if there is someone else you havent fought who could also clean up the same dirt, then you aint done ****.

Are the opponents I named welterweights? I think that we agree that Floyd is a welterweight. Since they are the best in his weight class then he has to fight them. Believe me, one of those names will emerge and if Floyd doesn't fight them then it will be considered a duck. Let Matthysse knock Danny the **** out and Floyd not fight him. There would be threads out the ass talking about how Floyd is scared of Matthysse. I never said Manny got blown out. I said he got knocked the **** out which is what happened. That fight was close if I remember. I had Manny up by a couple of points. It seemed like Manny was going to win but we thought the same in the 1st fight. The point is that we don't know what would have happened. Like I said before, Manny might not even be the same fighter anymore. What if he comes out in Nov and looks like **** against Rios? We have to see how Manny comes back from that KO first or people will place in the same category as Mosley and Oscar. A fighter that Floyd waited to late to fight. That is IF Broner keeps winning. With the competition he has faced so far it is likely. It's not like Broner is beating elite fighters yet. Cleaning out the division regardless means something. If the division is that soft then establish themselves as the man. That is the same thing people say about Hopkins reign at middleweight. It's the same thing people say about Calzaghe at supermiddle. That is the same thing people say about Finito's reign. I have heard the same about Hagler as well. Dominance is important in my opinion. I could see if Floyd was bigger and could remain at 154 then I would suggest he moved up and clean out 154. But Floyd is a welterweight who can fight at 154. There is a difference. In my opinion, it doesn't look right on Floyd's resume if he hasn't cleaned out a division. It's like when people say, "Manny fought everyone". In eight weight classes he hasn't cleaned out not one. When greats are mentioned, 9 times out of 10 they have cleaned out a division. Floyd has to do that.

i can see the points you are making and i still think differently so we will have to see how it all pans out in the end. although, if floyds history tells us anything, its that we are both overestimating what he is willing to do.

if the argument is purely about fighters faced regardless of the outcome I would say De La Hoya takes it looking strictly at names Oscar has the best NAMES of all time on his resume, But if your basing it on accomplishments, win/loss, dominance, longevity, ect..imo it's much closer than people give credit for

    This thread is ridiculous.

Can't wait for this to be checked out 20 years from now and see people who actually tried to argue that Oscar will go down the better fighter.

Mayweather has him handily. He could lose his next three fights then retire and he'd still be a clear cut above Oscar.

Just because you say so? Now that is ridiculous.

What has Mayweather done to be clear cut in front of ODLH, "even if he loses his next three fights". You sound completely ignorant with comments like that, and worse when you have no argument to back up such an outrageous claim.

Especially when you factor in that ODLH has beat better opposition, is more decorated, and had a superior resume.

Take into account that Oscar would be undefeated if he had Floyd's resume, AND do not turn a blind eye at the FACT that while Oscar took on everyone challenge available Floyd Mayweather did not whether you want to excuse him or not, it doesn't change the FACT he did not fight Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, prime Miguel Cotto, younger Mosley and Manny Pacquiao.

It's safe to say that with the difficulties Mayweather had against Castillo and a part time fighter past his prime DLH, Mayweather would not be undefeated. In fact he lost to Castillo.

So I ask you, if you're not trolling, and you truly believe Floyd is "clear cut" and handily ahead of Oscar, present your argument here instead of just spouting the same tired responses, "there is no blue print", "Oscar lost fights", etc... Show me why you are so confident that despite Floyd having a weaker resume with less accomplishment against inferior fighters deserves to be ranked higher.
