Well Dawson requested a catchweight during actual negotiations for the fight and was turned down. The initial mention of 168 may have made Ward a bit more justified in that regard, but the idea that it was totally voluntary on the part of Dawson is also a bit revisionist.

Hops don't want none..Like he ain't running but he made it clear thats not a fight on his radar and I think Ward knows it would look bad to call the old man out.

If Pascal knocks off Bute and then Dawson again..thats a good fight for Ward but right now it doesn't look that appetizing really.

  4. Nobody gives a **** about light heavyweight, and why would it matter if he goes down in weight for mega fights. I notice a lot of you think it is special to go up in weight but it's not as special when you go down in weight? What does the **** does it matter? Your fighting top level fighters at the same weight, stop being ******ed. The big money fights are at the lighter divisions, makes sense.

They(Ward and Dawson's camps) had already planned the "call out". In negotiations, Dawson suggested a 171 catchweight, but Ward demanded 168. He clearly wanted to take something out of Dawson by draining him down. No way anyone could refute that.

When has Ward shown the slightest interest in moving down in weight though? When he offered to give up a whopping 8 pounds for a guy 3 divisions below him for a fight that had no chance in hell of occurring?

True, but at the same time, you don't call out the champion at 168, and challenge him at 168, to then expect a catchweight fight in negotiations.

    Dawson did that to himself.

I'm remember clear as anything Dawson saying he would move down to 168 either the day or day after he beat Hops.

I'm not as sure but still pretty confident he said that he would move down to 168 after the Super 6 was over..because the "competition was stronger at 168" (not a direct quote but something like that) This was before Pascal beat him mind you.

If Dawson beats Adonis and Bute/Pascal winner Ward should look at him again and yes should move up to fight him.

Hagler did it and it worked for him, although Hagler fought everyone at middleweight also. yet the legends were moving up.

No. Dawson actually called him out at 175.

Then Kellerman asked "would you go down to 168 to fight him?" Dawson, in the heat of the moment after his big win and being put on the spot in front of a national TV audience, answered yes.

Then Ward like a b1tch held him to that answer, and even refused a catchweight of 170.

The "call out" was already planned.. Dawson and Ward's camp had already agreed to fight if he beat Hopkins....and Dawson said "168 or catchweight".

:think I get your guys's stance on it..... :good

Personally I think 170 would have been the fair thing, but we will have to agree to disagree on the rest.

Dawson is the one that called out Ward, when you call out a smaller fighter on live TV, I don't see why the smaller fighter is the one with the obligation to concede to what you want, or even meet you half way if they don't want.

Dawson didn't have to take the fight.... Ward said no to Martinez at 160, because he cant make the weight.

Props to Dawson though for taking the fight.

That all being said, I might have to rethink my stance on the whole 'Ward demanding 168'. Because regardless.... even if I think he was justified (which, he totally was), it doesn't really matter if he was justified or not, ward did seemingly demand the fight be at 168, or no fight (it seems). So yes.... in that aspect, Ward did indeed demand the fight to be at 168.

So Ill have to change my position on that :think

Because his weak ass punches can't hurt men his own size,
and without KO's his $$$ will continue to be funny. The dawson
stoppage doesn't count. Anyone who knows boxing saw that
chad was drained and sickly at the weigh-in. Ward is featherfisted.
He's the black sven ottke. Shits out wins in his hometown and puts
    fans to sleep.

Ward's either going to start talking some trash or start getting some knockouts. If you're a nice guy (boring) and have an unpleasing boxing style (boring), then you won't get to the big paydays.

He needs to start promoting himself.
