Lewis gets up on unsteady legs and the wobbles at the count of 9 and again after the stop, I just watched a few versions of it and IMO Lewis was fortunate the ref stopped it. He had no legs ....thoughts and opinions

Yes. If I remember correctly his legs were still shaky when the referee is holding him. Fair stop.

It would have been nice to see if Lennox could have fought his way out of it, but it might have been dangerous for him as well. McCall could punch and was a vicious finisher.

One of those stoppages you could argue for or against, I think.

For me it looks like he was on shaky legs and another punch could have ruined him especially how he wobbled after the count of 9 and the stop...He was badly hurt IMO

it may be that Lewis indeed would have been out of it had the bout gone on, but I think the ref could have let it go longer and see for himself what happens.

Shouldn't the champ be given the benefit of the doubt?
Also Mccall wasn't a very great finisher as you can see in the Bruno fight, Bruno barely could stand up and all he had left was the stamina to hold.

From TV I think it's a borderline stoppage, but the ref is able to look in the boxer's eyes and make a judgement from there, which we don't have the privelege of doing.

Taking that out of the equation though, although Lewis' legs did look wobbly, it's highly unusual for a defending HW champ to be stopped so quickly. To me, Lewis looks no more shaky (actually less so) when he got up than Holmes did when rising from the Snipes & Shavers kockdowns, but Holmes was allowed to carry on. That for me is inconsistent.

If you use Holmes vs Shavers & Snipes as a yardstick, Lewis was probably stopped prematurely.

I wonder if there was a promotional common denomitar in all 3 fights? Hmmm.....

Too early for a championship bout; it was the second round. There was one knockdown and he got up.

Compare that to Amir Khan's unprecedented wobbles after the first Prescott knockdown - that wasn't a world title fight and he was given every chance.

Good stoppage, he fell into the ref;s arms after it was waved off. Had it gone on McCall would have ruined Lewis and youd have never heard another thing out of him. Hed have been the first Audley Harrison.

I dunno. Lewis didn't look good, but McCall wasn't exactly a lethal finisher. Either way could be justified.

I think Lennox showed more than a little naivety in how he responded to the knockdown, to be honest: he tried to show off that he wasn't hurt and instead showed wobbly legs to the ref. You can't give them a reason to wave it off, not these days.

Im not so sure. I think as its a title fight and as Lewis was champ he should have been given a little time to recover. I cant remember another H/W champ to be dropped once, beat the count and the fight stopped.

Other times i think the ref can see a clearer picture than us and maybe got it right. I change my mind on this on a regular basis.
