Because Kosta got knocked out by Vince Phillips and that ruined the fight.

Yes there was discussion and Oscar would have knocked him out at 140. Too much everything.

And because De La Hoya had bigger fish to fry than Kosta.

What?? Tszyu was merely a rookie in 96, then had his lights put out by Phillips, and went back to the drawing board for a couple years. Oscar was fighting P4P'ers by then.

Kostya getting KO'd by Phillips put the kabosh on the bout. Kostya had a couple of tuneup fights and the next time he had something like a bg time bout was when he beat Rafael Rueles in late 98. By that point Oscar had already moved to Welter and had held a title there for a year.

The problem is that tszyu was no where near Oscar's level at the time.

Oscar was great at 140. Too bad he was not as effective at 147 as at 140, he would have been top 5 welterweight of all time.
