The guys that gave Ali trouble (Frazier, Norton, etc) were all fast, pressure fighters who knew how to get inside and really mix it up. They also could land bombs with either hand.

Wlad is basically a one-handed outside fighter with average foot-speed. I don't see how he'd have a chance against Ali. - And Frazier would have killed him in the ring.

Now you're showing your true colours Fella. Your a judgemental clown. I'm a Brit. Licensed with the BBBofC. After I fought for 7yrs at HW in the 90's as an amateur and have trained/coached boxing ever since and am currently a pro referee. Rather than just talking the talk I still actively give something back to this sport because I love it, even with its flaws. And you?
Re-read you're own post. You say all the "trainer, fighters and commentators are all just nostalgic, "grass is greener".
All of them? Really? Even the current modern ones who disagree with your point of view? Dude you sound like a radicalist. Even when faced with the mass opinions of the highest, most eminent names in pro boxing worldwide who agree that much of the past fight skills are lost and modern boxing has lost so much due to the sheer lack of volume of fighters, experienced trainers and lack of fights therefore most fighters today would struggle with the likes of the old HWs you disagree. Where is youre evidence that boxers punch harder today?! Post links, stats, quotes, PSI calculations, anything to back up such a blinded modernist view. That is the most ludicrous of your statements thus far. What are these amazing modern advancements that have enabled the human to punch harder today?
Its your right to disagree but stop paying lip service and read their opinions fully before calling them out. The book I mentioned earlier is an excellent starting point. Why would all these hard men and intelligent men such as Emanuel Steward, Teddy Atlas, Mike Capriano, Rollie Hackmer and Freddie Roach be irrational and looking back with rose coloured spectacles at missing the "good old times"? No, they have witnessed both sides of the coin and know what they're talking about. To insult their views as nostalgia is an insult to their intelligence of the sport.

Case in point. Remember when Tommy Hearns showed Tim Bradley how to properly throw a right hand?

much talked about moment. Timmy just didn't know any better, despite the extraordinary advances in modern boxing science.

Yes and yes. Won't knock Ali out, can't possibly outpoint him.

Glover. You just showed yourself up with the links you posted. If you think that's an objective opinion on the difference between past and present heavies then no wonder you cling to that ridiculous belief!
Its akin to these blogs of conspiracy theories that say we didn't land on the moon. There is nobody on that guys sole "blog" who has any credible attachment to the sport.
It churns out the same silly alleged facts by banging on about the so called "size" differential which is allegedly so important in today's boxing. Utter nonsense. I asked for facts not a guy's blog which is solely dedicated only to modernist omnipotism.
And judging from your other posts on other topics on ESB that I've just checked its clear so are you. So there's no point talking to someone who has yet to see both sides of the argument.

You are so dismissive of even the current great trainers and the people who've set foot in the ring & seen both past AND present fighters and can give true opinions? It always boils down to the same bull**** about size and weight which is a non argument, I know that as an ex fighter as fact. I was training as one of these modern Heavies. Plyometrics, interval training, high protein 4hr nutrition. I'm 6"4 and fought 18 fights at 238lbs.
I now weigh 280 with 12% BF but hit no harder and take a shot the same as I did when lighter. I once thought like you but then, after genuine studying of BOTH sides of the argument and discussions with REAL boxing coaches and retired fighters and more reading on the subject it became abundantly clear I was wrong.
Difference is I don't expect you to have the humility to go away and genuinely look at it objectively.

You're whole defence rests on the fact that anybody who was around back then who states unequivically that it was a better era will always be biased towards the past due not to knowledge or experience but due to nostalgia, no matter who they are, how qualified to give that opinion they are. Sorry fella but they've fought & trained in amateur and pro gyms worldwide and still do. I'll take the opinions of these "biased nostalgics" such as the great Manny Steward, Mike Silver, Angelo Dundee, Freddy Roach, Teddy Atlas, Kevin Rooney, Billy Nelson, Hughie Gallagher, Brendan Ingle, etc, etc over yours.

I'm 47. Ali was completely and totally modern, you act like we're talking about Bob Fitzsimmons. That's not the case. All the late 60's, early 70's heavyweights fought with equal technique to today's fighters. SRL fought with equal technique to today's welterweights in the 40's for ****'s sake...

They're in the NFL or in prison, for the most part. If you think Chris Byrd is faster than Ali, then that tells me you've never SEEN Ali, and there's not much point in having a conversation with you.

I'll reply to your other post soon.

On that post, you told me that in your opinion, David Haye was Wlad's best win.

    Ha!

    Look what you've wrote above?

Now you're either a troll who's pissed himself laughing whilst writing that garbage, or you need locking up for your own safety.

    Wlad's best win was Haye.

    Haye!

Haye who was a former CW, who'd lost to Carl Thompson, and who'd only had FOUR fights at heavy when Wlad fought him. Haha!

    That's Wlad's best win?

    What does that tell us?

And Foreman wasn't a proper HW?

Luckily for Ali, Puritty, Sanders, Brewster and Peter weren't around in the 60's and 70's.

Liston would destroy Wlad and would be the odds-on favorite in that fight. I'd take Frazier over Wlad as well and Norton would be a live dog.

Do you watch any boxing that doesn't have a K brother fighting?
