Would £5,000,000 be enough to coax Calzaghe out of retirement?

What is Calzaghe's net worth? I seen him at the dinner night a couple of weeks back and although he looked trim and in shape he must have been about 14 stone. And he was pissed out of his head and rumored to have been on the coke that night.

Cant see a comeback, surely he wouldn't tarnish his legacy he is HOF for sure. Then again he does love the limelight and a fight with Froch at wembley would do wonders for his career if he won both of Froch belts!!

I would bet on Froch for the win if it were to happen.

 

How long a camp would joe need to give himself a good chance???

 

Big risk for Froch.Although I would expect him to win now he would get no credit but a defeat would be a catastrophe

 

He would need more than a camp.

He would need at least 2 tune up fights over the course of a year and constant training.

Look at Hatton when he came back, and Senshenko was no Froch

It might. But if he does come back at age 42, you really think he would be anywhere close to the boxer he was before retirement?
It rarely happens that an old combacking fighter has anyway near the succes he had before, and a fight against a top 5 fighter would most likely result in a devastating defeat.

 

There may be a price, but it's not going to be £500K, or even £1m. If they offered £5m I would imagine they would give it some thought. That's an incredible amount of money for just one contestant. Where would the money come from?

 

Ticket sales and PPV for Calzaghe vs Froch fight would easily cover that amount and Froch purse in my opinion. It would be one of the biggest, possibly the biggest fight staged in Britain ever if it happens, though it won't.

If Calzaghe hadn't retired undefeated I'd have said there was an outside chance of him having come out of retirement by now for a Froch fight. Now though, unless he really needs the money I doubt he will do it, he seems to love the fact he was able to retire undefeated, and he has to know if he comes back that he's basically giving that up.

 

42 or not the fight would be huge and as big as anything out there at the moment.

don't think joe would take it as so worried about protecting his unbeaten record and legacy than taking on the best unlike carl.his record kessler ,lacy and hopkins apart is padded imo and there will always be questions.

The above said id give joe a chance just to outbox him and not get caught he has not blown up out of shape like hatton nor in his career did he have many if any punishing fights.carl is made for him but obviously with lay off carl the favourite.

i think you would be closer to five million and joe would want to see an indication carl was way pst his best to even consider it and risk his 0.

Questions like what? You can make arguments that Roy Jones and Hopkins wanted no piece of Joe back in the day.

the best name on his record is kessler or hopkins and in fact hopkins has probably down as much for joes legacy as his own.

his career defying fight was lacy where he single handedly destroyed him but he beat him up so bad lacy was never same fighter again so through his own work he again damaged his legacy in bizarre way.

in hey day jones jr didn't want to come to wales and lets be honest why should the pound for pound champion have had to come to wales to fight?if joe wanted to go down as one of greatest all time he should have gone to the states earlier but sadly he did not and it will always harm his legacy.

above said i still consider him one of the greatest talents iv ever seen as a boxing fan and would as said before give him chance over carl.
