This is why Roy Jones Jr's career will always be suspect. The lack of big punchers.

Frock and Kessler and all the Super Middleweights of today would have been considered bums on Roy Jones resume. Including Andre Ward. Prime Roy beats the **** out of him too in the same manner he beat Reggie Johnson. No I am not comparing Ward to Johnson but Roy is too much for these guys.

Just to prove my point a shot to **** Roy Jones still punches faster than these guys right now.

 

No MW had that power but Roy's career has a huge shadow over it.
As for legit chance against Tyson? He would have been comatose the first hook Tyson landed.

 

Gerald McClellan would've taken him in 2-3 rounds.

 

If he'd have landed flush. I don't think he'd have gotten the opportunity though.

Roy was so fast, and Mike was completely shot at that point. He gave up during the McBride fight less than 2 years after negotiations with Roy.

Lets look at the different versions of Roy, and do a comparison with today's fighters.

A young early 20's MW version of Roy would have beaten the following in my opinion:

Martinez
GGG
Chavez


When he was at his peak At SMW, I think he would have beaten:

Kessler
Ward
Froch etc


At LHW

Clev
Dawson
Pascal etc


The Ruiz version of Roy from 2003 fighting at CW, would beat the following in my opinion:

Jones
Huck
Lebedev etc


Yet people say that Roy was overated?

None of today's top guys across 4 weight classes would have beaten Roy.

Roy is criminally underrated on here.

Really doubt he could avoid McClellan for 12 rounds.

 

I respect you're opinion, but I think he would have avoided him. He was so fast, and although Gerald was a hard man, he wouldn't have been that hard to hit. I think Roy would have caused him lots of problems, especially at 168.
