That's total bull. Ruiz wouldn't have won a single fight above the journeyman level if he didn't cheat. There isn't a world class fighter that Ruiz beat legitimately, WITHIN the rules. Against an old Holyfield, he faked "low blows" to avoid getting stopped, same thing he did to get a bogus DQ against Johnson. Against the other top level fighters he faced, he held excessively to prevent better fighters to do what they would have done otherwise, beat him clearly. When he didn't hold excessively, what happened? He was beaten, repeatedly - brutally KOd or just outclassed. Oh, and let's not forget the gift decision he got against Golota. All of this fraudulent STEALING of victories from decent fighters was made possible by Don King!
Like I said, Ruiz has better wins than anything Vitali could dream of. But I get it, you're a Vitali fan. To you, looking good while losing is better than looking bad while winning.
If you saw the slow mos you actually could see it was low. Also a sd victory over Golota would have been ok, Ruiz was the busier fighter. Also fighters cheat all the time. Either you hate all those cheaters or you stop hating Ruiz. Wlad/Hopkins/Ward/Ottke/Ruiz/Holyfield/Tyson/Lewis
I can't completely discredit Ruiz simply because he has something few heavyweights have, a KD of Holyfield. I have never seen Holy that wobbly for that long. How much of the damage was the head clash? I couldn't really see it clearly. Objectively what was Ruiz good at? He seemed to have a decent chin as he kept getting up against Haye. What was his defense and body punch resistance like? His jab looked weak but was his right considered a weapon? Was his grappling tactics because he couldn't fight on the inside? Was he actually good at grappling? It seemed like Holyfield had a hard time pushing him backwards and he was able to push Tyson around. I've seen the Haye fight but I haven't watched a complete fight of his from his prime. I think the Golota fight was the one I watched the most of. I don't know if he faked low blows but he did often turn his head then try to claim rabbit punching.
Lennox should have just fought the guy instead of dropping the WBA belt. He is the reason that disgrace got a belt in the first place :roflatsch
I am not sure but there was talks back then it was Emmanuel Steward who wanted to keep Lennox away from Ruiz and same with Wlad..:think It was fight which nobody wanted to see and could have made Stewards creatures look really bad.
The slow mo didn't show a head clash, just a single oh right. I think the Ruiz KD showed how much punch placement and timing counts to hurt somebody, Ruiz did something no other fighter ever managed to do with a single punch against Holyfield. Bowe stopped him after an onslaught but Ruiz nearly did the same with a single punch. Ruiz was also a rather strong guy despite not being very big. Credits to his trainer as Ruiz always came to a fight to do his best, he fouled and he cheated a bit but so did every ATG. Ruiz was a very subtle fouler. Ruiz had good stamina, a good enough chin, for his physical traits a very good skill set, and an iron will to always do his best.
His Holyfield victory was legit and the first fight was a robbery. If people claim Holyfield was a 5 times world champion because of the Valuev fight he's still a 4 times world champion because of the Ruiz fight. Ruiz was a legitimate belt holder. Was he great? No Was he good? Yes
No, Ruiz wasn't 'good'. And his all 3 Holyfield fights were filled with blatant cheating by Ruiz. Holding, Grabbing, Clinching, Wrestling, faking low blows, etc. He did it in all 3 fights. See, Don King in his infinite wisdom actually thought Ruiz could possibly somehow become a PPV cash cow for the Latino market and that is why he made sure Ruiz got a belt. Luckily, the Latino fan base was not suckered by King and that Ruiz had no skills other than grappling like an Octopus after the Tua fight to protect his Chin. David Tua also deserves blame for the 'Jab and Grab' style as Ruiz didn't use it until after that brutal and embarrassing KO.
This is confirmed. Steward was on record saying he feared for Lennox and Wladimir due to John Ruiz being from the same stable. Ruiz knew the weakness of both Lewis and Wlad and would have ktfo both of them. David Haye fought Ruiz and ktfo him out, than Wlad took advantage of an injured Haye.
