No, you don't understand. He trained extremely hard to get down to a bare minimum for stamina purposes. 180 would kill him.
Calzaghe would not hit nearly hard enough to command Marciano's respect, ever. Rocky by late KO, behind on the cards.
Anyone who says Rocky could drain anything under 180 is a ******. He spent most of his career over 180. He trained DOWN to that weight, not up. Anytime I see someone say he could have fought at 168 or 175, I giggle. Dude would have put on weight in this current era, not lost it.
this is about making weight not about training. 180lb man can drop 5lb of fluids without side-effects.
Marciano was a conditioning freak. Everything he did was weighed and measured. The guy was 185lbs for stamina purposes in order to carry his power and output for 12 rounds. There's a lot of fighters in history that could easily cut 5lbs without any major side effects, Rocky isn't one of them imo.
It'd be a case where if Rocky couldn't get Joe out of there early, he would end up being outboxed, and maybe stopped, given that he suffered some terrible wounds in his time (assuming the fight isn't in Russia!). I'd like to know the heaviest that Joe was on fight night, wouldn't have thought he'd be ridiculously outweighed. Would be even better than Froch-Kessler, both men are noted for just finding a way to win.
No, a 180lb Rock would still punch a hole through Calzaghe, would just take him a little longer than the 185lb version.
Jesus ****ing Christ, there are actually people picking Calzaghe to beat Marciano:shock: I know Calzaghe has some of the most ******ed and deluded fans there is, but this is bad even by their standards.
People are failing to acknowledge Joe's advantages in the fight.. Power and strength can win fights alone, but sometimes not.
Rocky was also a skilled pressure fighter. He was pretty good at slipping opponents' jab to get in range for example, he was also excellent at cutting off the ring.
