    Mike Tyson and its not even close.

    Boxing fans know who Mayweather is and that about it.

    While with Tyson everybody knows who he is he transcends the sport.

    Even though I believe this thread is stupidly one sided, obviously Mike is more popular. You can't sit there and say with a straight face only boxing fans know of Mayweather, he is the highest paid athlete in the world right now as he appeals to a wider market than just 'boxing fans'.

    i was always excited when there was a mike tyson fight coming up, not so much excitement with Floyd.

    Highest paid athlete in the world doesnt translate to being the most popular or most well known athlete in the world, outside of the US 99% of the world's population doesnt have a clue who the **** Mayweather is but many still know Mike Tyson and its been more than twenty years since Tyson was in his prime as a fighter. Tyson transcends the sport, Mayweather doesnt,this is not even close.Its the truth deal with it fanboy:deal

    not easy to match tyson in popularity so its a bit unfair to mayweather. how about all current big names together vs Tyson? like klits, pac, floyd etc..

    tyson vs ali would be more fair contest..

    Non boxing fans don't even know who Floyd is. Also, I've noticed on boxing dvd sites Floyds career set is way less than most other fighters, probably because nobody is buying them.
