They definitely came to realize what kind of an investment they had on their hands. In terms of a bout with Garcia, this is how I see it:
Matthysse is superior to Garcia. He punches much harder, knows his distance, knows how to set up his punches, has fantastic stamina, iron chin, shorter punches, faster, better defense. Matthysse will knock Garcia out!!!
I like it. There's actually a short clip of Judah hitting him with his left uppercut floating around on YT with his amused reaction to it.
On Friday night fights Teddy Atlas showed how Lucas has good boxing skills. Very interesting stuff... Basically he shows where Lucas is throwing rights to the body, not to land usually, that have 0 chance of landing, but to see Peterson's reaction. Peterson basically moves to the left over and over. Lucas sees this, throws a right to the body, and a left hook up top (where Peterson will be), and this is the 1st knockdown. I've boxed and watched boxing for years, although I'm admittingly not much of a counter puncher or throw that many feints, I didn't see any of that until Atlas pointed it out. Just like Lucas said the loss to Judah, and Alexander was the best thing that could of happened to him... Watching him, I believe it.
Of course he has skills. Just because he's not very fast doesn't mean he can't box. He's very intelligent and is great at timing punches. It's not like he's just throwing one bomb at a time, this guy throws many and then when you think the combination is over he catches you while pulling back. Aside from that, he's a much smaller fighter at 5'6" catching these taller, faster fighters who were supposed to box his ears off yet Lucas has the patience to time and use his footwork to catch them. You want to talk about crude your confused with the other Argentine, Maidana.
I think your over hyping his right counter .. He simply threw a right and landed it against a fighter who bring his right back to his waist. Anyone could have hit dallas with that punch. What Matthyse does, he does well, I will give him that. but I want to see, is what happens when he faces someone that can match or exceed him in punching power. Will he have the skills to pull out the win with out a KO?
Nope, to land it with that accuracy and be prepared to follow him back over that jab shows intelligence. Maybe any upper tier fighter, but not just anyone. Otherwise Dallas would have been stopped over and over and over prior to facing Mathysse.
Dallas is anything but upper tier, thats what he is not! com on man! Dallas has plenty of bad habits and one of them is he is there to be hit and his head movement is crap, and keeps his hands way too low. The only attribute dallas has is speed and flash not much else. He been KOed before and will be again. Mattyhessa could have hit dallas with his eyes closed, his defense is just that crappy. so lets call the dallas fight what it is, Dallas was there to lose and make Lucus look good.. Again lets see what happens when his physical gift is a detriment rather then an assets and that will give us a workable scale of where he's truly at.
