'Casuals' guide to boxing

Floyd doesn't have to fight the best fighters because he'd beat them anyway

 

It's mad how that happens. A guy in work asked me what I was doing at the weekend once and I told him I would probably just stay in as I was skint and there was the Matthew hatton - brook fight on anyway, he replied "yeh hatton's going to smash him up", I just looked at him and walked away. Clearly he just recognised the name and that was enough to make him the oracle of boxing

 

Anyone else get bombarded by texts and calls for tips when a big fight comes around?

That does my head in.

 

I only really bet on Boxing when I'm really confident of the result. When Ovil McKenzie fought Enzo I fancied him to blast him out early to lumped on rounds 1, 2 and 3, I also told a load of mates who are casual boxing fans to do this and thanks to Ian John Lewis we all won a few quid. Now every time a fight comes around I'm getting texts asking for tips....and when they don't come in I often get abusive texts back haha!

 

I'd class myself as a casual. I don't proclaim to be anything other.

Infact the reason I joined this forum was to learn. Learn about fighters I know nothing of (Rigo etc) as they aren't from the UK. Learn from guys who have followed boxing for many many years. Learn from guys like Billy Nelson who work day in day out with a World Champion. And to feed off other passionate boxing fans.

I have to admit, in amongst the absolute knobs, there are some very knoweldgable posters on here whom I enjoy reading their posts.

I intend to stay around, and this time next year I will still be learning.

But I guess I'm a casual afterall.

This philosophy also extends to most men (esp young men) thinking they can fight quite well when they have hardly ever done it before.

I wouldn't pick up a snooker cue and think I could beat a big snooker fan who plays 2-3 times a week for the last 10 years

 

Clearly Naz wouldn't have beaten Lennox, but Naz DID used to floor heavyweights in sparring

 

Never forget a mate of mine putting £100 on Harrison to beat Haye as he had won Olympic Gold.....oh how I chuckled.

I have no problem with people asking questions if they don't know something but for the love of god do not try and bull**** me.

I was at the Froch fight at the weekend and I was fortunate enough to be sat with about 8 lads who really knew their onions, some really good chat there, neutralised the pissed up chav chat from the majority there.
