Groves will defeat DeGale whenever they fight. He is the better fighter with more ring intelligence, cunning and power. He beat DeGale last time by switching tactics from what DeGale and McDonell were expecting and they had no answer. Groves is much better now in fact I would put a hefty bet on Groves stopping DeGale next time they fight. Groves has been sparring the likes of the Dirrell brothers, Kessler, Froch, Christopher Eubank etc that should tell you a lot. He is fulfilling his potential.
No need unless in the future one has a belt and the other is doing relatively well. Groves as is now would win a rematch, by the same result
Based on what? What he done or said in the last 18 months which gives you this impression compared to what saint groves has said.
DeGale gets so much unwarranted stick on esb and I find it very difficult to understand, some fighters dispite dubious records get away with all sorts without a negative word said whereas people like degale evoke a tirade of abuse and dislike really don't get it. Firstly I don't see this fight happening anytime soon, I thought James nicked the first fight but it was a toss if the coin decision. Both have failed to make the step up expected so far and a rematch would be close again but imo there is more possibility of groves getting ko'd than there is degale.
I dont think Degale did himself any favours when they were on SKY before their fight.Crossed the line with personal insults.I was proud of him in the olympics, but after that actively wanted Groves to win, whereas would have been neutral before.I like to think thats not a true reflection of him,and people in the know have said as much.Boxing wise,I can't separate them.I think they're both capable of winning a version of a world title, don't want to see a return until either,or both, does.
They don't need to fight again anytime soon, they should both do their own thing for a bit and let the rematch build. If one of them wins a world title you can bet your house the other will suddenly be screaming for the rematch so leave it until then. A fight between these two at Loftus Road would be absolutely huge though, both grew up within a mile or so of the stadium and that would be a huge local rivalry fight. Could see plenty of Chelsea/QPR fans turning that into a pretty heated atmosphere!
groves has developed into a decent fighter over the last year or so, the fight on the froch undercard proved how far he has come. For me degale hasn't progressed as much. Can only see one winner !
Was I the only one who thought that in Groves-Degale 1, Groves boxed out of his skin that night and Degale seemed flat? I think in a rematch it could go very differently. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Groves fan and wanted him to win in the first fight but I think he's getting overrated on these forums and Degale is getting underrated.
Although a rematch would be very hard call This post could be spot on Degales opponents zuniga, the pole, the frenchie, sanavia are a level above groves last few But he hasn't been promoted so heavily or widely A rematch would be as tight as the first I'm sure
When the brights lights are on you strut your stuff. The reason DeGale did not box well that night was all to do with Groves.nnext time they fight he will do an even better job on him. DeGale is flash without substance whilst Groves is a substantive fighter very technically proficient. The night he won the Commonwealth title when Ajose knocked out Colin Lynes in the arena I proclaimed that. He was the best young technical fighter in the UK alongside Darren Barker and nothing I have seen since then tellsvme I am wrong. If Groves was available on the stock exchange I would invest heavily.
Degale was frustrated and confused by Groves reluctance to engage and just box off the back foot, it really could have gone either way it was a razor thin victory. Degale is a class fighter, you don't win gold medals if you don't have a decent skill set but I just think Groves has his number. He's beaten him in the Am's and Pro's now and that will give him the mental confidence whereas Degale will be suffering the opposite.
Rematch should have taken place straight away... I got Degale to win the rematch It's an interesting fight..
TBH the first fight wasn't exactly a great spectacle and the whole fight was built more on the bitter rivalry and the verbal sparring rather than the fight selling itself on the basis of it being an exciting war. I'd only really like to see it again as a meaningful fight a little down the line. There are other domestic battles which haven't happened yet that I'd prefer to watch over that.
Groves maintained his self-respect and didn't resort to the type of retort and pathetic/offensive comments, such as 'ugly ginger kid', and playground tactics such as holding his nose in disgust. James really let himself down and showed how he lacks intelligence. I can't recall anything disrespectful that Groves has said, but you're free to correct me if you can quote something that the "ugly ginger kid did say". Not a huge fan of Groves, James is just a wanker and people don't rate him due to him being a shitty person aswell as a limited boxer.
