Mayweather would have beaten him. he gets the respect because of the way he fights and he is a more likeable character. but this doesn't mean he would have beaten Mayweather.
This thread proves my point correctly, manny does NOT get the respect he deserves. Although the little son of a ***** refused to have his picture took with me when I was in LA, he is my boxing hero just like messi and zidane are my footballing hero's. They are entertainers. Pacquaio is one of the rare fighters who go out to entertain not like mayweather who fights just to get the win without worrying about entertaining. He has fought the BEST at every weight (mayweather was scared) and he would have fought anyone. His speed was unbeleivable, his power was incredible, his movement was as good as anyone. In my eyes he is the GREATEST fighter of his era and should be considered alongside the greats of any era! His fighting ability when at his peak, his resume and his achievements back this up
No he hasn't and no he wasn't. Who are you to say how much respect he deserves? Just because he is your idol, doesn't mean everybody else should fall into line. He was/is an amazing athlete but I think he gets too much hype because his team picked opponents who were known but who were either on the way down or suited his style perfectly. Since moving up the weights: David Diaz = Limited, slow, punchbag De La Hoya = Way Way past his best, weight drained and forcibly so (apparently) Hatton = Good win but Hatton was also nowhere near his prime Cotto = Weight drained and had to defend his own title at a catchweight??!! Clottey = Nothing needed Margarito = Just returned from ban, stylistically perfect Mosley = OAP Marquez = Lost but awarded the win Bradley = Won but robbed - Good win Marquez = Ko'd
You can do that **** with every single boxer. Pac has the best record of any boxer still active today.
If he gets less respect than he deserves its due to his fans being ignorant fools to everyone except Manny. He is a great fighter no doubt but i wouldnt say he is top 20 ATG like some. Yes you can pick apart every fighters records but Manny's can be picked to pieces even from an un biased perspective. Destroyed Cotto.......At 145 for a WW title Destroyed an un ranked Margarito....at 150 for a JMW title Rematched Morales after he struggled to make weight previously and coming off a loss. Fought a corpse in Oscar (verified by Roach) Mosley was done Marquez brutally KO'd him at 40 and outboxed him in the previous 3 especially the third. At the lower weights he was a hurricaine, great wins over Barrera which he doesn't seem to get that much credit for.At the higher weights i would say he has been well managed, people have this perception that he is 4 foot nothing and weighs 130 lbs when in reality he is a fully fledged welter now. Great fighter, great to watch and still very dangerous now as we will see when he destroys Rios who is one of my favorite fighters ATM.
You haven't mentioned many of his best wins He has the greatest and toughest resume of anybody active This is a bad indicator for our sport is pacquiaos resume is being questioned What's wrong with Brandon rios then, let me guess not really a welter or coming off a loss-so exactly the same as manny
Rios is a great opponent for Manny, he is coming off a loss but it was a decision loss not a KO. Its true Rios style is tailor made for Pacman but it works both ways. Both have solid chins and love to stand and trade, Rios is young and strong. I can see Pacman KO'ing Rios but it will be very entertaining. Rios has had a few solid wins already and only lost once Acosta,Antillon,Murray,Alvarado wins definitely entitles him a shot at the big boys.
I know I haven't mentioned some of his best wins. My comment(s) clearly stated "since moving up in weights". Nothing is wrong with Rios, it's a good fight to come back to and not a complete pushover. I have nothing against Manny, I think he is an incredible fighter but you have to seriously take into consideration the state of the opposition he was facing when deemed to be in his prime. Of the list since his journey through the weights, Marquez and Bradley were the only live opponents he faced.
I know you can, doesn't make anything I put there untrue. The fact that you merely replied as you did suggests you can't find an argument with the list.
All you are doing is putting a negative spin on it. Cotto weight drained? Yeah, when he weighed 144 for his previous fight? Hatton was shot? When he was considered the number 1 140lb fighter in the world? Easy to look back and say Oscar was weight drained when at the time people were saying he's way too big and will KO Pac with the first left hook he lands. Even Clottey was considered a good opponent back then-high risk, low reward. Does Pac have the best record of any fighter still active today? Yes. You said he gets too much hype. Every bit of hype he gets is deserved with the record he's got. This isn't even counting the wins vs Barrera, Morales and Marquez before he became big, and the first two Marquez fights were very close, no one got robbed. It's not just the fact that he wins, it's the way he does it (with the exception of Marquez).
Compare pacquiao resume against mayweather's - its no contest. Mayweather's is a joke. Pacquiao haters/doubters tell me a boxer in the last 10 years with a better resume?!?! They aint one simples. Pacquiao is an hall of famer, top 20 of all time fighter yet people disregard his achievments because that's the 'cool' thing to do.
