Do fighters take dives

I'm talking strictly journeyman level here,been watching quite a lot of small hall stuff coldwell and others where the 'opponent' raises his game and either nicks it or At least makes it competitive

Yet when watching more distinguished promoters prospects against the same names the said journeyman poses no threat and acts like a punchbag


So do we have fighters taking a few quid to make the prospect look good
Because I'd gladly give them a few to make these tedium fests more lively
Or are they that good that its just 'levels'

 

Moot subject, there has been proven cases but you would be daft not to suspect it happens more often.

 

I know there was the mafia stuff years ago and we are past that at the top level luckily
But no different to bribing or treating judges and refs I just feel like over the last say 3 years where we have had the opportunity on British tv and Internet to watch full cards,I must have watched hundreds of rounds where the prospect is looking dynamic and the journeyman doesn't care as long as he survives for another show next week

I understand that's there role in the sport but why and I'm not naming names do I see such varied performances from the same man
I can think of 3 well known British journeymen who on their day look great and then on another totally disinterested
Maybe it's just if they performed too often the phone would stop ringing

 

It frustrates me,I know boxings business but its also sport

 

In fairness some journeymen get called in at really late notice and are obviously not as well prepared as they could be but there are so many strange fights and cases that you have to wonder, boxing is a dirty business at the best of times, you only have to look at certain promoters and management to work that out.

 

No dive was the wrong thing to put,it's misleading


My intention was to say are fighters paid to take it easy and let the other man look good
Now clearly the Peter McDonaghs of this world aren't going to but there are lots of hard working boxers on a hiding to nothing that might be pleased to act as a punching bag


And as for the imports,you can't tell me that the Eastern European boxing scenes that bad.at my local club we get lots of poles down and the vast majority are hard,proud men that give as good as they get and more

some of Kimbos fights have been blatantly horrific dives, but calling his opponents journeymen would be an insult to actual journeymen


sometimes a journeyman fancies it, sometimes he doesn't and coasts, but you have to remember, if he does come out of his shell and attacks he's taking a risk because he's opening himself up and if he gets caught and stopped then its an automatic month ban and for some journeymen that just won't do

I think he didn't expect to put him down,it was just a short counter then he thought **** I can't do anything for the rest of the fight


Even then it should of been a draw
