Factored into this fight being made?

From what I've read Showtime were aiming for 1.5 million buys and would break even at around 1.2 million. The fight is rumored to have done less than 1 million. If true that's a big hit to take and they'll want to recoup their losses.

Floyd would still have taken the Alvarez fight somewhere around this time. Holding off on it would only have benefited Canelo. Floyd's 36. Alvarez is a somewhat green 22 and still improving.

Not really, Canelo was always on the list, before the guerrero fight when floyd fought he was stripped by the WBA, floyd said that he planned on defending it next. So who was he gonna defend it against at 154? Only logical guy there was canelo.

Floyd also offered canelo the fight 2 years ago but canelo said he wasn't ready. This came from canelo own camp.

So for someone who has followed negotiations from the past to present, the guerrero numbers wasn't a major factor into fighting canelo. I think floyd was always gonna fight canelo early, the longer he leaves it the stronger canelo gets and the older mayweather will become.

The only downside to holding off would be if Canelo took an L before facing Floyd. That would put a large dent in any potential PPV numbers.

Could be another factor as to why Showtime could have insisted it was made now knowing they'll hit around the 2 million mark.

I think Showtime put pressure on GBP to make this fight now. Too much risk in delaying it.

To be honest I don't think Floyd had much say in this. Reckon Showtime flexed its muscle at GBP and said get it done.
