LMAO, Brock Lesnar whose fighting experience is scripted wrestling became UFC heavyweight champ for a while. What makes you think, Tyson who is a beast of a fighter wouldn't have success in the UFC and get's beaten by ordinary fighters. Grappling and ground game is way overrated with these MMA fanboys.
What a question .. A fat, shot James Toney lost against an MMA Hall of Famer and people think MMA is the one and only Martial Arts .. Mike Tyson would literally destroy all those glass chins of MMA within the first 10 seconds. I' ve never saw a worser boxing and defense than in MMA. If Mike lands the punch, jaws will break. Before someone trys to grap him, he will lie on the floor. Mike and Toney are two different dimensions. Too slick, too boxer. [yt]z5rtp8guIZo[/yt]
Did you miss the part where he was a wrestling champ and athletic freak? Did you watch his fights where he used his wrestling abilities and athleticism to beat top fighters? MMA has shown over and over that if a grappling attacks are a lot higher percentage techniques than striking ones. If Tyson can't keep the guy from clinching him or diving at his legs he gets owned on the ground. This has been shown over and over and ****ing over again. Swapping out one guy who doesn't know how to defend a takedown or sub with another guy who can't either but is named Tyson doesn't change anything. If Tyson started training grappling at a young age, of course he could have been a great MMA fighter; he was an amazing athlete. But that's sure as hell not enough without being able to grapple.
yeah, except that one doesn't need to start young in order to learn grappling and/or excel in MMA. take down defence and defending against submissions isn't rocket science. it could be learned easily. Grappling is overrated. There might be some fundamental skills that one should learn like knowing when you are vulnerable to a submission, but most of the time, its really your physical strength, condition and explosiveness which will decide, how you will fare in a grappling contest. **** even ricardo mayorga at his age still won his first match against a guy who keeps taking him to the mat.
If it's all so easy according to you why aren't you a current UFC champ since it only takes 3 months to learn according to you....dumbass
Said the guy who has clearly never tried to grappled. Seriously, you have no idea how dumb this sounds. How do you explain the massive correlation between grappling experience and success in mma? Why don't the boxers and kick boxers just do the "easy" thing and learn some take down defense and dominate?
I remember reading in a martial arts magazine some time ago how Bill Wallace thought Tyson would do against Royce Gracie and Wallace thought Tyson would win. He envisioned Mike backing up just enough to avoid a takedown while landing hooks and uppercuts when Gracie got too close for comfort. I'm not sure I agree with his opinion 100% but it is interesting to read what a martial arts legeend had to say.
I laugh when guys get so mad over completely theoretical situations. They're fun. There's no harm. Let's say we could time travel prime Tyson to today, give him a year under a top trainer to deal with take downs and leg kicks. I could see him becoming champ. He was a small HW to begin with so he'd cut to 205. His short stocky stature would make it tough to get take downs on him. And he already had plenty of experience getting around longer reaches. Plus I doubt that anyone in HW could take Tyson hook on their best day. He was supremely athletically gifted. With the proper training, I honestly don't doubt that he could be the current champ.
I'm far from an athlete and I chew up athletes on the mats. Grappling is a lot more technical than you think. It's not rocket science, but it's not just "oh be strong and fast." Also, Mayorga "won" via illegal knee and ended up having that overturned to a NC. It's not a good look to talk about things you don't understand.
Brock wrestled since he was a kid. Wrestling is combat minus the strikes. If grappling really is that overrated, why aren't more boxers coming the the UFC for easy quick paydays? Because they can't stuff a takedown and they know they would get owned. Boxing is not overrated. Grappling isn't overrated. If you knew anything about fighting you'd know this, fanboy.
Haye you guys ever seen him fight? Tyson was always involved in a lot of clinches. The minute he clinches in MMA, he gets taken down and submitted on the ground.
His taken your advice and is on a nine week course for the US judo, greco, wrestling and water polo teams. Those water polo dudes just grapple in water anyway according to el flea bite and that's softer than the ground. atsch
We know one result - Mitch Green's nose was able to break Tyson's hand in their street fight. :!: Tyson could have taken the chance way earlier in the more style friendly K1 circuit if he was remotely interested and wisely refused to start that nonsense.
Ray Mercer didn't have any grappling experience. Mayorga didn't have any grappling experience. Ray Mercer and Mayorga beat the **** outta top level MMA fighter that weren't even trying to fight, just wrestle.
