True enough, as Marg had just won a 154 belt, though to be fair he had campaigned at 147 most of his career - people gave Mosley credit for beating Margarito, in fact they use that win as a way of justifying Mosley as a creditable opponent, even though Marg weighed in at 145 and lost 30lb in 6 weeks... Yet a smaller Pacquiao fighting a 150 Margarito is clearly a disgrace. You couldn't make it up

    X 2

100% this. Never understood why people call it a catchweight fight.

I don't think it means much for his resume given what Oscar had been up to the previous year and a half, and given that he hadn't fought at 147 in 7 whole years, but to send any blame to Pacquiao for Oscar AGREEING TO FIGHT AT THE WEIGHT is just silly.

Mayweather is su h a hypocrite. When Pacquaio fought Mosley on Showtime he made a big hoo-haa about how Pacquaio is disloyal to HBO. Then Floyd signs this crazy deal with Showtime for 6 fights lol.
Then he cries about Pacquaio fighting at catchweights.. Now he does the same..

Still though, its an intriguing fight and he deserves a little credit

    no it isnt
you need to consider what canelo walks in at and where floyd started
floyd's been moving up in weight since super feather, he'sjust smart enough to know that a full blown jr. MW is a bridge too far

Like this fight hate the catchweight, I understand the Cotto comparison the only real difference I see between the two is Cotto had more going against him leading into that fight. he had just gotten brutally stopped and possibly cheated against by Margarito and imo lost vs Clottey going 1-2 heading in, had no trainer and essentially trained himself, was dealing with I believe his fathers death, the catchweight was just piled on to a long list of mental/physical stresses going on during Cotto's training camp. At this time the only thing Alvarez has to worry about is making weight still **** the catchweight bs

You also couldn't make up him being caught loading his gloves, suspended for a year, getting his ass kicked by Mosley on that very night, then only fighting once in the 2 years prior entering the Pac fight.

I'm not a fan of catchweights and ideally this fight would have just been made at 154 so there would be no excuses.

But just to look at some facts, for Canelo's last fight he weighed in at 153. For Mayweather's last fight he weighed in at 146. So 152 will benefit Canelo more here anyway. Also there is no rehydration limit which is also another benefit for Canelo.

Early prediction, I see Canelo weighing in at 154 still which will add more fuel to the fight.

Look let's be real here and stop the hypocrisy and ***** ******* bull...Cotto was NOT weight drained - a guy who comes in at 146 for his biggest victories and had spent a long time fighting at 140, 1lb for a 27 year old is not much

It's all relative, Canelo is a bigger guy, it's harder for him to shift that weight. He came in at 153.5 against Trout

All in all if Canelo does it properly and carefully then there is little difference. It would be great to see some *****s show their impartiality and admit this is no different and all that criticism of the Cotto fight has come back to bite them...and admit Mayweather IS a hypocrite - but they simply won't do that

I'm just glad the fight is made at a catchweight which if Canelo's team do it right, then he should be ok...

Oh, and it's worth mentioning that when Pacquiao brought Cotto down two pounds, Pacquiao wasn't in possession of a 147 belt. The only fight he had at 147 was against a shot Oscar coming down from 154 which everyone dismissed. Mayweather, on the other hand, is a current beltholder at 154 and has had two previous fights at that weight where he's never placed any restrictions on them weighing what they wanted.

Mayweather's case, in a way, actually worse! Oh the irony.

But seriously, good fight. It's just two pounds.

A catchweight in this case is far better for Canelo than a rehydration limit.

Canelo can still weigh what he wants come fightnight.

Too many excuses, Pacquiao beat Cotto, he didn't fabricate his personal problems. It's fair to say Pacquiao has had his fair share of personal problems going into fights as well.

Let's not forget Pacquiao had no belts at 147, Mayweather is a 2 time 154-champion. Pacquiao was essentially coming up from 140, having just 1 fight against an old DLH...there are differences and they're not favourable to Mayweather

Other than that, in terms of the catchweight there is no difference! The catchweight makes Floyd a hypocrite. End of story

"I look at Miguel Cotto as an undefeated fighter because he faced Pacquiao, but Pacquiao caught him at a catch weight. He wasn't the best Miguel Cotto. He was drained. He wasn't hydrated"

Has Floyd a belt in this division yes or no? What is the deal to defend this belt at this weight and make a BIG unification fight? Now Canelo has to drain himself even more.

Hmm interesting....when Mayweather demands a catchweight it's important we analyse why before eventually accepting it was a good move, but when Pacquiao demands a catchweight no analysis is needed it's ok to just assume he wants an advantage come fight night.

    Where's the consistency?
