Hes the Unified 154lb champ and recognised as the best at that weight, how can people claim he's too green for mayweather? Sure he will gain more experience and probably improve in the future but he's far from green. I'm not a big floyd fan but it seems like people are already putting in place their reasons to detract from mayweather if he wins

this is a win-win situation for Canelo

if he gets schooled, he will gain the valuable experience and can only get better

if he makes it a close fight (loses by SD or MD), people will cry for a rematch, he will get it and get another huge payday

if he wins, he becomes a legend by beating a legend

I am seeing the same people that said that Canelo was going to destroy Mayweather now saying he's to green. They thought that the fight was never going to happen.

Canelo is not green. He is green in comparison to a number of the elite boxers in the sport, and in the elite level, he is relatively green. But on the whole, this can not be used to detract from a potential Mayweather victory.

We don't know if Canelo will continue to improve, everyone has a ceiling when it comes to skill level, and you never know, we may already be currently seeing the best of Canelo in terms of skill level. He will improve in terms of experience, and he will in all liklihood be able to employ his skills better as his experience increases. But like I said, we may actually be seeing the best of Canelo. Just because he is still young does not mean he can't peak early rather than late.

*My guess would be that he will keep improving, but we'll see.

Just like how certain people said Hopkins was too green when he faced Roy the first time. It's laughable.

At the elite level, Canelo is green without a doubt. The best prime fighter he's faced is Trout, a guy who is new to being considered elite himself, and Canelo didn't exactly blow Trout out of the water either.

It's not his fault, he's tried to make the big fights for years, only to see things happen like the Paul Williams injury or Ortiz getting his jaw broken against an undersized opponent. But nonetheless, the biggest wins for Canelo are the always underperforming Cintron, an ancient and shot to **** Mosley, and Trout. After that, what does he have to talk about? Ancient, always average Baldomir? Lovemore N'dou?

That is not the resume of someone who should be taking on the guy who's supposed to be the best p4p fighter in the sport. Canelo is still being eased past the prospect stage in my mind, and the fact that he's number 1 in a division filled with either mediocrities like Bundrage and Ishe Smith, other unproven quantities, or past prime warriors like Cotto doesn't change the fact that his experience against top flight opposition is practically non-existent.

But who is surprised by this? Mayweather's pattern is becoming that he fights guys who make enough of a splash in one fight that it blinds people to all the reasons why they won't have a chance against him. Like with Ortiz. (He beats Berto, and we're supposed to forget him losing to Maidana, under performing against Peterson, and almost being KO'd against Berto.) And Guerrero. ((He beats Berto, and we're supposed to forget that he has two fights at welter and got his face rearranged by Berto because he could never adjust to Berto's uppercut.) And Mosley. (He looked good against Margarito, so we're supposed to forget the previous 5 years of Shane being visibly in decline.)

    Etc., etc.

He was. The older Hopkins would beat his younger self.

Okay, lets do a little comparison here.

Floyd, by the time he was a pro for 8 years, had fought: Genaro Hernandez, Corrales, Castillo X2. He also had a group of solid 2nd string victories, like Manfreddy, Jesus Chavez, Demarcus Corley, Emmanuel Augustus, etc.

That's a pretty good number of beltholders or decent to solid contenders.

Alvarez has... Trout, who had only gotten himself into the big time after his previous fight. 40 year old Mosley. Kermit Cintron.

How the **** can anybody see that gap in experience and not say that Alvarez is green and isn't ready to fight the #1 p4p fighter in the sport?!! Seriously, what the **** about Alvarez' career makes anyone think he's ready for that stage?!

Of course him being green will be an excuse. With that said PBF is 36 and people want this fight.

Just wait until the day after the fight. The excuses will be that Canelo was actually a bum.

It's so easy to put a negative spin on any fight, Canelo hasn't hit his peak But isn't green either.
