How many times has AAA being taken by a journeyman and then gone on to stop a durable ATG liek Calzaghe? Incredibly rare. Look, Marciano isn't like George Foreman or Lennox Lewis, he isn't going to stop Calzaghe, the size difference isn't enough, even though Marciano is stronger. Marciano was skilled, nice head movement and all but Calzaghe is so much quicker of hand and foot and lands so many punches that there isn't a way for him to out point Calzaghe. Just think about how many shots Calzaghe would land every time Marciano steps forward, they won't hurt him but they will stall him and they will score. Calzaghe can throw those punches all day and all year. Calzaghe love to fight off the back foot like that - against a fighter will less effective reach (Marciano had no effective straight punches ) - slower hands - slower feet it would like a master class by Calzaghe, Marciano would struggle to get close, Marciano like to wear people down you cannot do that against Calzaghe.
If Marciano went through Calzaghe's resume he would be 46-0 with 46 knock outs. Can you imagine Marciano going life and death with Robin Reid or getting dropped by old man Hopkins. But apparantly not only does Joe win, he wins easily:rofl
Marciano only fought for the title 7 times and some of them were against the same opponents, Marciano was knocked down a few times in those fights and was behind on the scorecards a few times as well, there is a lot of hype around Marciano, one fight Marciano was down and losing on points late on in the fight, Calzaghe never ever came close to losing a pro fight, in fact Calzaghe barely ever lost a fight from a schoolboy boxer through the amateurs to the pros, Calzaghe always found a way to win and just didn't know how to lose.
So, this straight right that put Walcott to SLEEP would not count as an effective shot? You just proved you have no credibility. Good bye.
Marciano couldn't beat a Welshman that wasn't even a boxer [Dr Jack Matthews] that he was much bigger than, so what hope against one more his own size who was a boxer, a champion boxer at that.......hmm
Rocky Marciano would be given the death penalty after he literally kills Slappy Joe with the first punch.
Moore never beat Booker (2 draws and 1 KO loss in their 3 fights). Splitting hairs to a certain extent though, as 2 draws with Booker counts for a lot more than most of the wins on Hopkins' resume. Although they wouldn't make my top 5 wins for Moore, twice beating top heavyweight contender Valdes is impressive in a p4p sense. Moore's heavyweight run is underrated in my opinion - he didn't just get the Marciano fight on name value. He was probably the next best heavyweight, for a short time at least. People often overlook that he was the clear favourite going into the Patterson fight.
LOL what? Walcott wasn't flash knocked down from Rocky. He was BRUTALLY put to bed. Waltcott took shots from guys around or over 200, so did Marciano. Joe C never fought a guy who was 200, period. It's hard to compare chins, I agree, but on paper I would say Walcott and Marciano have better chins since they took shots from much bigger men. Joe C never fought anyone who probably weighed more than what, 180? 185?
Don't see that name on Rocky's resume, so wtf are you talking about? Was this before Marciano was even a pro? Because if so, then that is ****ing irrelevant.
The fight isn't even have known to have happened as a fact. But if you want to get down to brass tacks, lets do it. This supposed contest didn't happen till sometime during WWII. Marciano didn't join the military till 1943. During that time he started boxing to get out of KP duty but didn't have any amateur fights till 1946. Matthews was also 13 years older than Marciano and a world class rugby player. In other words he was a man while Marciano was a boy....and Rocky was still able to hang with the "Iron man". Not that this has to do with anything since Rocky would slaughter Calzaghe.....but you're welcome for the education. Bring something better than this rubbish next time, ok? :hi:
:thumbsup I could not have said it better!! Calzaghe's sheep worrying disciples refuse to even consider the possibility that Rocky, one of the hardest punching fighters in history (top 5 p4p imo) would have hit Joe!! The only way Calzaghe makes it to the late rounds is if they fight in a 60ft x 60ft ring!!! Joe's defence was not great, which spells disaster for him in this match up!! But even if Joe morphed into a defensive wizard for this fight and initially managed to avoid the destructive blows to the head that Rocky threw (blows which frequently ko'd men who outweighed The Rock by up to 50 lbs) Rocky would have numbed Joe's arms by round two by hitting them!! Come round three, Joe's arms are by his side, numbed and in a mess and he gets hit on the chin, and it is all over!! We have all heard the cliche "Styles make fights" but the fact is that Ezzard Charles, quite possibly the greatest light-heavy ever, a guy who would have destroyed Calzaghe in quick time could not beat The Rock. And he (Charles) was a larger, far more skilled, tougher and harder hitting fighter than Joe and The Rock beat that great fighter twice!! The ONLY way Calzaghe could have beat Rocky is if he did what that guy did in The Life Of Brian did!! Have the fight staged in a colosseum, run like **** and pray Rocky suffers a fatal cardiac arrest!!
