Pacquiao's win over Cotto was maybe his greatest win

I'm a Mayweather fan, and back then in 2009 the bickering back and forth between Floyd fans and Pac fans was at a fever pitch. But i was amazed by Pac's performance against Cotto, everybody was raving about he great he was after that fight and i was raving right along with them. I didn't care that it was fought at 145 pounds.

So does anybody disagree that the Cotto win was one of the greatest and career-defining moments of Pac's career?

The point i'm getting to is obviously that a convincing win over Canelo will be a tremendous feather in Mayweather's cap regardless of the catchweight. And since there's no re-hydration clause, it's not as if Canelo's not gonna be 165+ on fight night anyway..

I know and underrstand that Floyd kinda put himself into this position, what with all the **** he talked before his fight with Cotto about not wanting to fight at a catchweight, but c'mon... Give it a rest, haters!

Well i said maybe his greatest win, but yes, his first fight with Barrera also came to my mind. Ok, so let it be his 2nd or 3rd best win, my point still stands.

Barrera I is clearly numero uno.

Everything else is debatable, but in past threads Cotto is always ranked in his top 5 wins, usually 2nd or 3rd.

And why are you bringing this up now :)

The WIn was epic, and the reason no one discredited it was because there was no Floyd/Manny Rivallry.

Everyone just assumed they'd fight after and everyone was friends.

But then the fight couldnt get made, so it took place on internet forums, with each sets of fans using any advantage they could get to discredit the other.

My favourite HBO quote, was right after the stoppage, Manny jumps onto the ringposts, and one of the boradcaster says.

"We thought Manny Pacquiao was Great, He's better than we thought"

It was definitely a historic win. People didn't know if Manny could take a real welterweight punch, given how little DLH was able to do, and there was no question Cotto could bang. Despite the fact he was technically and tactically unprepared, even at his worst, Cotto is a very good fighter. Pacquiao picked him apart and dominated from the 5th round on. The baiting on the ropes and circling out to set up the knockdown was one of the craziest things I'd ever seen.

As Merchant said as the fight was stopped, "We thought Pacquiao was great, he's better than we thought."

Has there ever been any fight with a "rehydration clause"? That **** was something desperate *****'s made up for Pac's fights without a shed of a proof. Similar to that apparent "email" of Pac asking to hide test results that never surfaced, or that gym mate sticking needles in Pac's arse.

It was an epic win - Cotto was forced to shed 1lb from his recent fight weight at the age of 27, when he had fought at 140 in his 20s, to fight a former flyweight champion - yet with the benefit of hindsight it was 1lb too much and it wasn't fair LOL - this guy went from 106, a beltholder at 112, to fighting a WW champion and not just beating him but handing him one hell of a battering - Cotto's face looked worse even than it did against Margarito after the fight -
yet that 1lb means Pacquiao gets no credit from the same people stating the Canelo catchweight is going to help Canelo :patsch

I'm not sure if it's blatant bias or plain dumbness

Barrera was of course the defining one, but Cotto walks into the top 5 for sure...

Not as refined, but you can see the fire and hunger, that energy. Even back here you can see his offensive style is so different from others too, its those shorts straight punches delivered with power one after another. The 1-2-1-2 combos he practices on the mitts. Cant think of any other fighter who fights this way. Devastating against guys who tries to stand there but throws him off when they move back laterally.

It's def Cotto for me, I was convinced & wrong as per usual that Cotto would beat Pac. I flew over for the fight & it def is the performance of a lifetime for me. Incredible and brilliant. With the crowd roaring at the end "We want Floyd" "We want Floyd" This fight **** the Mayweather clan up big time.

What boxing gym in Bournemouth do you train at? If you do?

And how much did the whole trip+tickets cost to fly to Vegas for a big fight like that?
