So you're actually saying Lewis has a better track record and ATG standing than Vitali? Welcome to ESB, Captain Obvious. Wouldn't know what to do without you.
He fought 6 months after that injury. And if you had any brain you would know it was a knee injury that forced his inflammatory retirement. :rofl
Has nothing to do with Lewis. I was using him in contrast because he is who Vits is most often put in the same sentence with. Would you prefer Ali? Holyfield? Wlad?
Who knows why he didn't fight all those fighters. But the fact remains. Had he fought even a handful of them (no unreasonable) his legacy would have been improved greatly. Do you disagree?
Nope. Most sane people on the forum agree Vitali's track record is pretty thin. He lost two important fights and his match-making was mediocre. His lay-offs and multiple surgeries didn't help his standing either. It is what it is and few dispute it. Your thread doesn't shed any new light on what we already know.
And I agree with this, but I'm not trying to shed any light. I'm rather trying to get some insight as to why he missed so many top fighters in the years he was active and ranked.
Lewis didn't do enough to get Bowe in the ring. That massively destroyed his legacy especially when some people would have you believe that the blown up light HW Holyfield was his best ever win. "Wlad was Lewis's main contender for nearly 3 years during his prime years". Again this looks awful for Lewis. Even more so when he was wasting his time fighting 5'8 fat guys like Tua instead.
The fighters listed had he fought a good deal of them you would be giving him **** now for it. Holyfield? Barret? You serious cuz? All faded names on that list or its fighters who just now making the scene while vitali has one foot out the door into retirement. Vitali is pretty much retired but fights every now an then for a check. Then again nobody thinks of him as the best heavyweight today
Bowe, Holyfield, Ruddock and Lewis had an agreement for a four man tournament. When the time came Bowe ducked Lewis. And no, Wlad was NEVER Lewis' main contender as you suggested.
I would be giving him **** for fighting better fighters than he has? How does that even make sense my friend? In 2000 Holyfield was still a top fighter.
Like I said. Lewis didn't do enough to get Bowe in the ring. That massively hampered Lewis ATG standing and nothing can change that. Well since you're such a fan of The Ring's rankings here you go. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine's_Annual_Ratings:_Heavyweight--2000s *Notice who Lewis's main rival is during Lewis's prime years.
Why did Bowe duck Lewis? Is it because he was afraid? If so why did Bowe and Newman send a contract to Lewis a year later for a fight without the involment of the WBC and Lewis refused?...Why was Bowe set to fight Lewis a year after that when he beat Hide but fell apart when Lewis was ko'd?
