Regardless of his team, he isn't bound for much past British level IMO. Similar to Gethin, he will run into a wall against fringe world characters.
:conf Because the ending of a match shouldn't IMO define or negate all that preceded it. The same goes for careers. That is why I always found it distasteful when people wrote off Acelino Freitas with the "quitter" label, and was overjoyed when he found redemption in his comeback after years of retirement jumping up several weight classes to shut up a young bully. (and lay to rest questions of him lacking heart)
Dean Powell charges £100 to do undercard fighters corners (cuts/wraps) am told. Maybe I heard or picked the boy up wrong (dodgy English accent) as he was tired after his fight. Was a good while back (cpl years) and tbf the boy says he wraps like a boss.
I still remember seeing Popo kicking footballs into the crowd over here.......loved him. No matters.........he jacked.
Dont forget Vitali. I would like to see a rematch. But Hearn will keep Burns away from him. Especially because Brits dont like "quitters". That fight would be hard to sell.
Rather than re-edit ma last post I will lay some down........ Gonzalez went to the well.....if he had gone there early.......what would have happened ? He woulda been stopped quicker ? Got on his toes and boxed ? I will say another thing..........if Burns was Froch for example.......he would only have sealed the warrior code in many peoples opinion/eyes.....but he aint and its different strokes. Me personally..........thank the lord above Ricky Burns has the warrior code stamped and codec'd within..........and no need for such talk from him either (dbl bonus) I understand your sentiments to some extent and tbh I don't think Gonzalez is or has been branded a quitter with regards to his career (not yet) Popo is remembered for quitting and I don't like it either...though he has done. Good days and bad days when ya fighting eh. Still awaiting Jose's broken arm/wrist results.............an arm support when arriving home dosent cut it.
Just saw the gethin fight as had problem with boxnation last night It was entertaining while it lasted but clearly diazs power was unlike anything martins ever felt before and he just couldn't cope with the head shots Gethins impressed me the last 3 times I've seen him domestically but it was painfully apparent he is too stationary at world level Still he should be proud to headline a show in his home town which was a world eliminator, and he has the consolation of the Lonsdale belt and lots of potential fights at that level Crolla Murray Scott Harrison or Liam Walsh would all high quality British title fights Was impressed with Diaz as well, first time I've seen him and his record shows he is an old School fighter
And regarding Ronnie heffron his punch noise annoys me almost like a female tennis player Just thought I'd mention it
Dean powells advice from the corner always sounds insightfull to me If you watch he will wait till the trainers done his recuperation and given tactical advice and then when the ref calls he will force a point home loud and clear, something very basic but vital.he does this so the boxer will walk out at his freshest possible moment with this going through his mind I don't think he pushes in and he seems to know his stuff his knowledge of active boxers at home and abroad along with his technical nous make him one of the best there is
Cleverly's extremely luck that he has Dean Powell in his corner because Vince appears to be clueless. All the good advice Clev ever gets comes from Dean. However, there's other fighters where Dean interferes too much. Ricky Burns is an example, Billy knows what he's doing in the corner and then you have Dean shouting some something completely contradictory and drowning Billy's advice out. Not needed at all.
