I think Tommy's speed and power makes it difficult for Rocky early, but Rocky's chin doesn't fail him, and he makes it through to knock out Morrison in 4 rounds tops. You?
I am not sure who wins but Rocky was never hit as hard as Tommy hits. And Tommy, when prepared, could get away from slow footed pressure fighters... even ones much bigger and longer than Marciano.
I don't think Rockys chin would be able to take the Tommy left hook.(For long) Rocky should take his chance early as Tommy's left hook would be by far the hardest punch he would have ever faced. Joe Louis had right hand trouble. And Tommy hits harder than JJW and Archie. (Much harder than Archie for sure) I also don't want to know how sharp Tommies shots would be with the small gloves. If he decides to fight like he did against Foreman I do think Marciano is in big trouble.
Based on what? We don't know what it takes to crack Marciano's chin, because nobody came particularly close to doing it.
Archie got Marciano very wobbly. And Tommy had the best left hook in the hw division ever (or atleast top 2/3) and isn't the hw division supposed to be the division where one shot can end it all? Tommy was very fast and extremely hard hitting.
As good as Marciano was, if he came along in the 90's at heavyweight he would be lucky to get on Friday Night Fights. If he went the cruiser route, he would be on PPV. I just think his potential, with his extreme physical shortcomings, falls of precipitously when he ventures into the territory of elite 220 pounders.

Tommy showed he could box and I said if he fought like he did against Foreman I would favour him over Marciano as he showed enough quality there. He only did that really in 1 fight...which is a little less than 2%. In most cases Tommy could just **** himself up by being too open for a blow. But Tommy has shown he had it in him if he really thought he had to box. So it depends on how serious he takes Rocky. Also this fight would probably most likely have been a 10 rounder as both Rocky and Tommy had fought most their fights as a 10 rounder. This does favour Tommy a bit.
I think the speed/power combo of Tommy may very well put Rock on the deck a couple times in the first round, after which he covers up more and weathers the storm, Tommy begins to fade, and then Marciano's power begins to take over on Tommy's shakey chin. That's how I see it going in a bit more detail.
Tommy was talented but was was about as manufactured as a 1990s contender could be. He was lacking great fighter credentials but still capable for the era he fought in. He was found out a few times. Mercer, Bennt and had life and death with Joe Hipp. Tommy was also steroid enhanced and ultimately wound up as quite a tragic story. In another era he could have trained cleaner and developed more naturally to become a more complete fighter. That version could have been something rather than the version he wound up being:: a science experiment ready to self destruct. Whilst morrison still produced some world class form it lay short of the elite ATG form that could bother Great fighters. He always would have come up short against a great fighter.
i was reading every answer of the thread and i was surprised because i was not reading the classic crap " tommy had a glass chin so every puncher would ko him" and then i did read your comment...:rofl tomm ymorrison could knock marciano the **** out with a good left hook, tommy was 40 pounds of muscle bigger, stronger, harder puncher, with longer reach, he was faster than marciano and he took the shots from ruddock and foreman and the men who stopped him were not 185 pounders.
i see it being very similar to the mercer fight and once again rocky is a bit overrated, morrison underrated. rocky did not hit as hard as old foreman and (i still haven't sat down and watched the whole thing) tommy did just fine problem is, as dyna said, he didn't do that a whole lot. he'll get cocky, dragged into a slugfest and rock will take his chance
This. The thing is, the comments that I read from some posters on here indicate that there is a strong school of thought that size IS the only thing that matters. The way some go on, there is really no need to have the fight itself, let's just have the tale of the tape, compare physiques in the mirror, see who can bench press the most and decide the winner. It is not as simple as saying Morrison took Foreman's shots - he couldn't take Mercer's. I could go on and on, but I really can't be bothered, suffice it to say boxing is a bit more complex than saying fighter a is stronger than b, he's got longer arms, he's faster...so he will win...it really isn't as simple as that...
