Does Floyd have enough power to get Canelo's respect?

    People has questioned Canelo's chin in the past because he got wobbled by Cotto's fat brother once

    But that was ages ago when Canelo was a lad, and killing himself to make 147lbs (it was his last fight at that weight for a reason)

    If we exclude that one occassion, Canelo's chin has looked pretty solid during the rest of his career, and he's faced solid punchers like N'Dou, Rhodes, Cintron and Mosley, you could say most of them were past prime, but quoting Foreman's words ¨power is the last thing that leaves you¨

    It's a common consensus that Mosley hits harder than Floyd' isn't it?
    well, Mosley was unable to hurt ginger and the most succesful punch he landed was a headbutt

    Canelo has felt GGG's power in sparring, the most devastating power in 3 divisions bar none, will ginger be impressed with Floyd's brittle Xylocaine filled hands?

    Do you think Floyd has enough power to command respect from the young, hungry, iron chinned, ferocious, big ginger lion? or can Canelo just walk him down as if he was a run of the mill Malignaggi?

    Canelo was being backed up by a lesser puncher in Trout. He's not a stalker. He's a slow boxer puncher. He's going to get outboxed because he can't just walk through Mayweather. Doesn't have the skillset nor the mindset

    Mayweather is no KO machine but he has functional power and his opponents have always felt the power and respected Floyds punch

    he probably cant stop Alvarez but he can deter him or wear him down

    I dont think he was backing up because of Trouts punch but because it was his strategy to do so

    Floyd has Deceptive power, guys just don't walk him down. Every fighter that faces mayweather their punch output is lowered. It's his speed timing and accuracy that play into effect, he has guys not pulling the trigger because he will make them pay if they slip up. Canelo was hurt by cottos brother, I believe mayweather has enough power (maybe not in one punch) but multiple to earn Canelos respect.

    was thinking the same..

    i think after being tagged at will multiple times, he'll start being more cautious of his counters in the later rounds..

    According to Shane Mosley, who fought both at 147 and 154 respectively, Mayweather and Canelo have the same power.

    You implied Canelo fought backing up because of Trout's power which I dont think is the case at all

    And he did get touched plenty but made Trout miss a lot as well and the strategy seemed to work

    I agree with floyd has enough power to keep him honest and will canelo slowly starts to fade down the stretch he will really feel floyds punches. Floyd is a underrated body puncher and i think his jab to the body along with his right to the gut will frustrate canelo and slowly tire him out.

    Mayweather used smaller gloves


    At no point Canelo was hurt by Trout, while Canelo dropped him and gave him stanky legs numerous times, the difference in power looked huge

    No. Floyd has gone 20+ title fights, 5 divisions, including 2 titles at 154 because he cant get his opponents respect

    He buckled iron chinned Oscar. More offensive fighters didn't buckle Oscar despite hitting him with everything.

    Alvarez has a suspect chin, and I doubt it's iron.

    Crisp and accurate punches hurt. I don't care how "tough" you think you are. "Walking through punches" is one of the most laughable phrases I see.
