That only means one thing, he's truly a hype job. Canelo has had 43 fights, and not all of them have been cans, he's faced some quality fighters albeit a few of them may have been past prime. He and Mayweather have had almost the same number of professional fights although Mayweather has faced much better opposition. It really amazes me how many people are still saying he's to green, in fact I argue to differ, I actually believe Canelo has more fights behind him than he does in front of him, I would even argue that he may be on the decline already(yes at the ripe young age of 22) especially if he keeps fighting in a weight class that's 2 division below where he should be fighting. Let's say Canelo beats Mayweather in September, where does he go from there? You can't justify him fighting blown up 147lber's in Mayweather or Cotto, so he's going to have to move up to Super MiddleWeight, then what happens?
It's just boxing fans, being negative as usual. Canelo is a very good boxer and I wouldn't favor anyone at 154 to beat him right now. And being world class at his age is an achievement in itself.
A weight class 2 division's below? LOL, you fight in the weight class that you can make and be effective in. If he fights at Super WW its because he can and he is probably most effective there. He is only like 5'8, hardly the height you would typically see for a super middleweight that you believe he is. If he were to beat Mayweather there would be a rematch. Opponents would present themselves throughout time.
@Sixpack Canelo is definitely world class. I actually think the people who still consider him to be green at this stage in his career, are actually insulting him without knowing. Like I said, I'd you still consider him to be green on the strength of 43 fights, then your basically saying he really hasn't fought anybody, and he's probably been coddled way too long.
Hes not green on experience, but hes 22 years old..... He probably hasn't completely matured physically yet, which is what I think people mean. I hope they don't mean hes green on experience lol.... And hes almost certainly pre prime.
He beat a top 154 pounder. He's green relative to what he will be later on, but he's a solid championship-level fighter right now.
@flyers2001 Last time I checked weight divisions don't go by height, if that was the case Paul Williams should have been a Light Heavy.
Hes not green, thats just silly. Hes been fighting at a good to world class level for the last 3-4 years.
just because his fights were televised by hbo and showtime, he was not fighting world class opponents....they may have been a long, long time ago.
He's not green but he is green in superfights in todays boxing guys qualify for Manny and Floyd sweepstakes fights for one big win Ortiz beat Berto so did Guerrero, Canelo beat Trout I think it would have been better if Canelo had 1 more big PPV type of fight first to show hes truly solid at the top level but this is how public demand works, we want guys hurried into the big fight because we have to pay big bucks for PPv
I said good to world class. Trout is OBVIOUSLY world class...possibly even a guy who is and around p4p lists. Rhodes Ndou Lopez Gomez Hatton Baldomir Cintron Mosely Even Vasquez early in his career Even if some of them were past it,smaller and middling in the rankings, were still legitimate fighters. Ceratinly not bums or cans
i still consider him green, therefore a potential that he's just hypejob. canelo only has one solid win in trout....and a close one at that. we'll just have to see how he performs.
