We are not talking about John Mugabi or Julian Jackson kind of power in Alvarez. He is quick and young and has good enough defense, but Floyd is quick also and will be the quickest guy Canelo has fought. It is hard to pick this fight because speed is what will win it and we really do not know who is faster. We have to assume Floyd is, so that is why I am picking Floyd. He has proven he has elite speed, but if Canelo is somehow faster than Floyd because he is 22 and can get the fight in ring center and land some punches off the jab he can do well. The key to this fight is can Canelo land to Floyd's body without being countered too much with the uppercut and right hand.
to be honest, I think Floyd is picking this fight because he sees something susceptible/beatable in Canelo. He went the distance with both Shane and Austin and also Matthew Hatton. He is only 5'9" compared to 5'8" for Floyd but Floyd has a 2 inch longer reach. You can bet Floyd sees something which can be exploited. It looks like a speed fight meaning speed is the factor. You have to assume if they are equal in speed they will not be in experience. Either way it is a good fight and Floyd fighting it is good. Let's hope it comes off.
I agree that Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is still the fight to be made and posted my thoughts in the "Anyone still care about Pacquiao" thread, but I am agreeing that Alvarez the most danderous opponent for Floyd on the list of available fighters because let's face it Pac and Floyd have been doing everything they can (for whatever reason) to not make it happen. Yes Alvarez has a relatively thin resume, but you simply have to watch his fights to see he brings a different skill set then many previous opponents. Hatton, Mosley, Ortiz, etc. I'd say Alvarez has better defense and punch variations then all of them. He isn't easy to figure out, he goes to the body then up to the head and vice versa. He can punch with both left and right hands, doesn't use the same attack twice in a row. Cotto is the one guy in recent times that had the skill but Alvarez has skill and is younger and stronger at this point in time.
Trout didn't expose anything. I just watched the fight for the second time and I couldn't have been more wrong the first time. What I thought was stamina issues when watching live, was Alvarez toying with Trout on the second viewing. He was already up on the cards by the 6th and started using defense and picking his shots making Trout look silly. Trout threw a lot and Showtime made sure to comment on it but he landed next to nothing and coincidentally they never brought up punches landed, only thrown. Watching it again without emotions running high and all that, I think Trout got worked, and I will admit that I was wrong.
I never saw Pac as a threat to Mayweather. Floyd did and so do you,maybe you guess are seeing something I'm not. JMM gave Manny hell for four fights, Floyd beat JMM like he was a little kid. I know styles make fights, but come on! Anyway, I'm talking now in 2013, Manny is damaged goods. Canelo more dangerous.
:good:good I think the real reason we are getting this fight so early is because on Floyds first time out with Showtime it caused them to lose millions when the PPV numbers didnt come together as expected. I believe Floyd was backed into a corner here.
