But if he had paced himself he wouldn't have been so dominant in the first 7 rounds! Anyone can go in and try and blitz their opponent early but if it doesn't get them out you don't get credit for having a good 1st half a fight and losing by tko ffs! It's like Andy murray when he used to have to play his best, most aggressive tennis against the top guys and he just wasn't used to it. A few times against Nadal he completely went for it from the start, won the first set but couldn't keep it up and got hammered. No-one said 'Nadal didn't win that match, murray lost it, if it hasn't been for murray not being trained for 3 sets he would have lost' etc No-one said after liverpool won the champions league, 'liverpool were lucky Milan shot their wad in the first half'. It's bull****
If Gonsales blew himself out no one to blame but himself he looked like he thought he could force the stoppage in doing so emptied the tank. 12 rounds is the title distance top level fights often won & lost rounds 10-12 the championship rounds named that for a reason.Obviously not the Burns fight but had it of gone further would have been the telling rounds. Lucky for the modern fighter as the 'old school' championship rounds were 12-15 that used to really sort the conditoning of the fighters out.Look back at how many fights were finished 13,14 or 15th round you would be suprised.Burns conditioning as much as anything got him the win no luck about it for me!
What about Liam Walsh did he deserve a shot? Like I said there have been worse world title challengers than Anthony Crolla and if he somehow beat Rees I don't see why he shouldnt be in with a shout.
More or less 100% there! Shackleton is a mile out,Gonzalez hit Ricky with his best shots and Ricky was looking back at him,do remember Gonzalez knew in the last 2 rounds Ricky was still quick and strong that's what played with his head hence he pulled himself out
:rofl Billy we all no burns had a result against Gonzalez, I'm not saying burns didn't show heart but admit it Eddie Hearn was nearly a victim of cherry picking going wrong. The bloke was world class!
He should be world class he was WBO No1 and not only better but different from anything we'd seen of him,Eddie can't be accused of cherry picking Ricky was forced to fight Gonzalez no Ricky has options which is always better
What happened to Gonzalez was his hand broken? I wasn't meant to dig at Burns because I like him and his fights are great, I just think that Gonzalez was pure class and to totally shut Ricky out for 7 rounds who also is at world level, shows something about this mans calibre. I also think Ricky was suffering with ring rust and that shouldn't happen again either and im sure under Eddie it wont.. :good
Me too considering some of the opponents Ricky has defended his titles against,If Crolla wer to pull off the upset and beat Rees then why not.Burns went life and death with Yusef Al Hamidi and looked awful before he fought Roman Martinez but still got his opportunity, why shouldn't Crolla get his if he beats Rees.
Gonzalez could have fought at the same pace in the second 6 rounds as the first 6 and he'd have likely won a 118-110 type decision. He was a better boxer than Burns on the night and even though I think Burns looked rusty, I think Gonzalez would outbox Burns again in a rematch. The decision to try and stop Burns was a poor one and I think it cost Gonzalez the fight. That said, credit to Burns for fighting through the 7th and then coming back well after it.
Have to agree with Billy 100%. The idea that Crolla could beat Burns is laughable. This is kind of like when he claimed Callum Smith will be the next world champion after knocking a 2 fight nobody out with a jab.
The offence is really directed at Ricky, hoe on earth can Joe say Ricky's flaws will be exposed by Anthony, for goodness sake he's never fought higher than domestic level and has been stopped and badly beaten at that level. I remember Anthony's interview after the 2nd Mathews fight,he had been banged up bad but notas bad has the first fight, never in 21 fights for me has Ricky looked remotely like that and joe say Ricky's the one with flaws! I personally can't see the fight happening between the two even if Anthony beats Gavin which is unlikely
Don't talk pish mate Yusef never laid a glove on Ricky at Upton Park, but do remember Yuesf HAS beat Anthony or had that escaped your attention?
