Cleverly v Kovalev or Shumenov in August - HBO/BoxNation

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by USA Rob, May 31, 2013.

  1. It definitely wont be Kovalev, could possible be Shumenov although i wont hold my breath.

Shumenov is a very very good fighter who looked like he was going to do big things when winning the WBA title in less than 10 fights but then he ran into Campillo and after two very good fights (The second in particular) he seemed to lose all momentum. Both him and clev have been saying for years that they want to fight the best in unifications including against each other but it hasn't happened yet, Maybe now Frank is ready to let Clev of the leash a bit and Shumenov feels its now or never to make a run at the top, hopefully that's the case so we can have this fight soon.

This would be a really big fight and without doubt the toughest of Clevs career thus far,

  2. Any more news on this ??

Eddie tweeted something again Today about clev having a 'tough' fight next ?

It has to be an unification fight! If not dont has Cleverly to face Brähmer?

  4. I would class braehmer as a tough fight though

    Especially away

As far I know Brähmer is a mandatory now and yes Brähmer would be a good fight. Skilled fighter, fast (Cleverly still faster), decent chin (I dont even know if he was down in one of his fights) and good power. Still think Cleverly wins this. But would be hard especially in germany.

  6. Braehmer is very underrated generally

I think he is competitive or beats many who are supposedly better than him

Both sides haves agreed to an interim fight in between. Cleverly will face Braehmer in November.

Do you have a source? I just heard that Brähmer will fight in august. So this would be the fight for the interim belt.

Berliner, possibly you didn't see the interview with Cleverlys manager after his last defence. He mumbled something about not having to fight Braehmer. After Braehmer pulled out injured for THEIR vacant title fight Nathan was given a fight against an easier opponent.Youll know all this, and Im sure you agree that Braehmer should be his next opponent, before unifications etc.Its a fight I think Cleverly can win, especially in GB,but Braehmer would be his toughest apart from Bellew, and they're gonna duck him.**** in my view.

Cant see this coming off,it would be a massive step up for Cleverly, too much IMO.I think he should take care of business with Braehmer, but don't think he will.Hes only a young man,so can't see the need to box somebody like Ward.Must be good matches without taking that one.Not a good career move.

Hmm... yeah I heared Warre.n talking about a fight in the states and he did not said anything about Brähmer. So we wont see that fight.
Brähmer was with Universum. Was not paid in his last fight and did not get paid to face Cleverly. So he pulled out. Thats what I know. The injury stuff was more an excuse from him I think.
but if Brähmer gets the interim belt Cleverly has to face him anyway. So I think we will see that fight. If Cleverly is so open like he was against Bellew he will get problems against Brähmer because this guy can punch a bit.

Cleverly and his team have no intention of ducking Brahmer. They simply don't to waste their time with Brahmer and want a bigger fight - such as Shumenov.
