Ray was naturally bigger at the weight, and both were just as fast. Ray was a bigger puncher and looked for the knockout more. I think Ray wins a decision or late knockout More likely a UD.
Mayweather wins no way Leonard signs the contract right now but he can be one of Floyd's last fights if he wants to die in the ring
Would you say that Floyd basically beats Ray in most departments then? Given that he is the most skilled you have seen and is extremely comfortable at 147, that would suggest to me you feel Floyd has an edge. There are certain boxers from certain eras who are a level above when it comes to fantasy match ups, and whilst I am a big fan of Floyd,Ray has fought and beat an immensely better level of opponent, and bested every single one of them when it truly mattered. His main loss was avenged in less than a year, and whilst I'm confident Floyd hears the final bell, were he to enter the championship rounds with a healthy lead, the man who always found a way when it really mattered, would pull off a stoppage. But my favoured prediction is a 117-111 for Ray,with a KD either way possibly affecting that tally.
Floyd said around 04 that prime Ray wouldn't be a top ten fighter nowadays, so I can't see what Ray's done to earn a shot in the intervening years.
It would be close and come down to intangibles. Floyd would do better against Leonard than he would against Hearns. Looks like distance fight to me. SRL better offensively Mayweather better defensively.
Sugar Ray Leonard is P.F.P. my all time favorite fighter, hands down. But in a best of three fight series between these two unique enigmas the sport has seen within the last 35-40 years would Sugar Ray Leonard sweep the best of three against Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr.? I don't think so. All three fights are scheduled for 15-rounds each and this three fight series/trilogy between these two greats would go all 45-rounds in a rare form of classic entertaining fight between chess masters with Ray taking two out of three and Floyd taken one. All fights going the distance. And to conclude any debate involving Floyd I honestly don't think the destructive welterweight version of Tommy "Hitman" Hearns or the June, 1980(Montreal)version of Roberto Duran don't sweep Mayweather Jr. in a best of three fight series either and would give Floyd a 50/50 shot of actually winning the best of three versus Duran 2-1 and actually going 1-1-1 versus Hearns, at 147 of course.
Although Ray is my #1, I can't think of a fighter with a better style to trouble Floyd than Tommy. And although I'm also a big fan of Duran, and despite the risk of incredulity from posters I respect,I think Floyd has the style to give him some real problems. I favour Ray partially because he is the most versatile and adaptable fighter I've seen, but mostly because he always found a way when it really mattered.
