Wouldn't a V build actually make you lighter if the shoulders are equally broad?

Qawi didn't have a V build and was extremely big for his length.
Qawi had anything but a V build, he was a total tank

Also how long are Shavers legs compared to Tyson, longer legs help a long fighter be light.
Judging by some pictures Shavers looks like he has very long legs for a man, while Tyson relatively has way shorter legs.
(Would be a hell lot of easier to judge their leg length if we had pictures of every boxer standing straight and in their underwear (no homo))

And 2-3 inch of legs is a lot lighter than 2-3 inches of torso.
Also Tyson had very muscled legs in his prime.

Also Shavers his long legs keep me thinking.

Julian Jackson and Thomas Hearns also had very long legs.
They also had a wide shoulder girdle, short torso and also an upper arm that extends below the waist.

This might have something to do with helping to create a lot of leverage so your punches are harder..

But that was not my original point I wanted to make, those long legs might have been reason for these guys their "non iron" chins, they weren't glass but not world class either.
Long legs are weaker when it comes to strength training and in boxing the legs have to take the weight of the boxer or he gets KOd.

When a fighter gets hit, the legs get weaker.
While a fighter with legs like Tua can afford his now weaker legs, the long legged fighter would struggle more to keep standing.

Boxing is for a very big part mental, and I think it really help your chin when your perception is high and getting hit doesn't mentally shake you (Staying calm like Salvador Sanchez or JCC is good) but having physical advantages like strong legs, thick neck, strong jaw, big head do help the mental game and in the end your chin to keep you standing.

So what I'm thinking is that having long legs is a disadvantage for your chin.

Long legs do have advantages though (being very long while still remaining light is one of them, which gives you a big reach advantage and helps your game when you're a pure boxer.)

Foreman was big boned and had huge arms, his chest was not like a weightlifters and his legs were study but not tyrannosaurus legs like Joe Frazier....he probably worked his arms strictly ...he gave a heavier appearance than his weight but he was the tallest quality heavyweight of the time....He may have been 6"3 or slightly taller, I dont think 6"4 but he was Big all around for those days and more muscled than most quality guys, muscle was a no no back then...well,weight lifting muscle

Shrink Foreman down to Norton's bodyfat percentage, and I'd bet Foreman weighed the same as Ken or less.

Ron Lyle didn't look smaller mass-wise than Foreman. Lyle looked pretty thick.

Larry Holmes is as tall as Foreman, not as big-boned, but just as tall!

Is it possible Tyson is less than 5'10"? If an old Shavers is 2-3 inches taller than a much younger Tyson, and if Shavers was 6'0 at his peak, Tyson's 5'10" listing might be bogus. Tyson's standing completely straight in this photo, and Earnie is leaning slightly.

Just food for thought here. Don't get all upset HEAVY by me posing a simple question. This entire thread pertains to height as you know!

LOL...Exactly. It's like in the UFC, where it's not uncommon for guys to be overbilled by 2, sometimes 3 inches.

But too many fanatics want their heroes to be as big and imposing as possible, so even questioning that a certain fighter might not be a billed height is blasphemy!

Botha standing next to 6'3" Lousi and SBW is straight embarrassing

I know people won't know who those guys are, but that's the point- take the boxers out of the whole "boxing bull**** height" matrix and compare them to people from other walks of life. The claimed heights start to look ridiculous.

Tyson is about 5'10" or slightly less

    //www.celebheights.com/s/Mike-Tyson-1161.html

But the point is, when Tyson fought Holyfield, he was listed 5'11 1/2". Look at any decent photo of them, and they are about 3 inches apart.

Tyson on the shorter side of 5'10", Holyfield on the shorter side of 6'1".

It's just that Tyson is one guy who has sort of accepted his "real" height and now admits to being 5'10"

    Yes, it's possible. I think he's 5'9 and half to 5'10.
