Ray Leonard is just as much fun to watch as Mayweather.

Stop trying to pick up the pieces MVC, you're making yourself look even more foolish.

 

But your overall thread is comparing their identities. "Neither is an all action fighter." What ****ing sense does it make to compare Leonard's run at 147, his most important, to Floyd's at 130? The better part of Floyd's career has been a cautious style, while Leonard's most memorable fights, at 147, involved a lot more action.

The comparison fails on so many levels. Get over it.

Not really. Your the one who sounds dumb. Who could Floyd Have fought at 130 to rival Leonard's accomplishments at 147? But I agree, and disagree that they fight similarly. Ray was more of a classic boxer-puncher throughout his whole career. Floyd fought that way at the lower weights, but as he got older his game evolved. Its to the point where Floyd doesn't have a style. He does whatever it Takes to win. The variation in Floyd's game is special. For you to say Lenonard is a better BOXER than Floyd is ridiculous. Floyd is obviously the more skilled guy. Leonard's power is what makes the difference for him. In the Benitez, and definitely the Hearns fight. If Floyd Had Leonard's power he would KO everybody inside 8.

 

Leonard was more offensive minded; he would throw flashy combinations/flurries where even if only 1 out of every 5 connected they still impressed the fans/judges.

They look a lot more similar when Floyd was in the lower weights and exhibited his combination punching a lot more often than he has at 147 and 54. Also I think Floyd is the superior defensive fighter.

Both very exciting fighters to watch in their own ways.

 

I don't think MVC was comparing styles, just the overall mindset of each fighter. Ray's stick and move style, referred to as "classical boxing", really is outdated. None of the top fighters of the past 10-15 years have used it to the point that they are identifiable with it.

Ray provided more action because he hit harder, simple as that. When Floyd is able to hurt his opponent, he does have a killer instinct. Problem is, his power never carried up with him.

In my humble opinion, when Floyd was at 130, he was comparable to Ray Leonard at 147 in terms of overall ability and effectiveness.

 

I don't know, Leonard was in 2 fight of the year and also several exciting fights. He's also scored a lot of eye opening KO's.

I don't think we can compare the two.

Unless defensive slickness is your cup of tea.

130 doesn't define Floyd's overall style. 147 does Leonard.

It's not obvious Floyd is more skilled because he never matched wits with someone with comparable physical advantages and ring iq like Benitez or Hearns at any weight. Floyd focuses more on his defense, but skills are are broad category.

And btw, Leonard was both destructive and intelligent at 147. He outboxed Benitez for most of the fight, then stopped him. In his early 20's before even facing Duran the first time.
