Shobox usually got HBO beat and they got this one beat as well. Although I do want to see chad vs adonis.
:readthre: Both start at 10pm EST. That means Charlo vs Hopkins is starting at roughly the same time as Gamboa vs. Perez does. Then, if both go the distance, it'll be Lara vs. Angulo clashing with Dawson vs. Stevenson - and Maidana vs. Lopez starting after HBO goes off air. Personally, I'm sticking with Showtime all the way (from the deep undercard earlier in the evening, hopefully) Gamboa vs. Perez is good, not great. I've seen Darley a bunch of times and yes he should be somewhat difficult for Gamboa but I still view him as quite a big underdog. Dawson vs. Stevenson I'm not really keen on whatsoever. If it goes one way, Stevenson (whom I loathe) gets a nice scalp by sparking Dawson out. If it goes the other way, Dawson takes him to school and boxes to a decision, which is going to be very, very, very boring if he can pull it off. Those are the only two ways it can go. Charlo is a terrific prospect (as is his twin brother, Jermall) and is taking a step up against D-Hop. It's more competitive on paper than Gamboa vs. Perez, if not as high-stakes. Lara vs. Angulo is a classic boxer vs. puncher match-up, one that has been talked about for years. It could be a main event by itself. Maidana vs. Lopez is very likely to produce ROTY nominations and perhaps even become the frontrunner as FOTY halfway into 2013. As for the undercards, Kamegai vs. Perez and Rios vs. Miranda both ought to be wars - and might be viewable on Showtime Extreme before the main card. That is far more appealing than finding a "way" to watch the Canadian undercard just for Alvarez vs. Green, which should've made the HBO broadcast IMO but will probably be one-sided and memorable only for the highlight reel KO that will send Green packing once and for all... Showtime KO1 HBO on this date, as far as I'm concerned.
Showtime. The only reason id see HBO is to see Darley Perez and how he is gonna do against Gamboa. Have no interest in the Dawson fight.
I've done this as well but I can't really enjoy the fight like I want to by doing it. I need to focus on one fight at a time to get full enjoyment.
Maidana-Lopez on Showtime. But if I'm lucky, that won't overlap with the Gamboa fight. Those are my two priorities.
Not sure what in my post indicated that I did not already read the thread. I have no interest whatsoever in a D-Hop fight, and you might be high on Charlo but I don't know who the hell he is and I am not interested in that fight. There's 3 fights I don't want to miss on Saturday, Maidana -Lopez, Dawson-Stevenson, Lara-Angulo. I just wouldn't miss a Gamboa performance over watching Demetrius Hopkins. If I hear Hop vs Charlo ends up being good, then i'd DL it. Simple.
"Example: If Charlo vs Hopkins will be televised, there's no way i'm watching that over Gamboa." I clarified in the OP that in fact it will, and will run in parallel with Gamboa vs. Perez as the respective opening bouts. Yeah, it's very much Charlo and not Hopkins that has piqued my interest in the Showtime opener. Darley Perez is decent but probably not on Gamboa's level. Not much between that and Charlo vs. Hopkins for me, really. More people will probably automatically be drawn to HBO for the 1st match simply because of Gamboa being the biggest star involved, and maybe they'll peek at Boxrec and see Perez is undefeated and enjoys height and reach advantages, thinking he is a threat. :conf
I remember trying to do it with Arreola vs Stiverne and that other card on Showtime(or was it Arreola was on Sho and there was a better card on HBO?), I forgot what it was, but it was better than Arreola-Stiverne so I just stopped switching to HBO because I found nothing interesting about Arreola getting pummeled like he always does when he steps up. If this happens again, if I see a fighter coasting, and a fight on the other network is better, i'd leave the channel on the other fight and only occasionally switch back. Screw HBO and Showtime for doing this though. Boxing isn't MLB/NBA/NFL where pitting games against each other does not hurt those sports. Boxing is way different and we have to pay a premium to watch the top names of this sport.
Agreed. It's especially annoying for me, when there is mounting pressure from everyone to do a RBR for this one or that one. (ofttimes with public opinion split 50-50 as to which is the worthier to focus on)
Exactly! I hate it when they do this. It's not helping the sport IMO. These cards should be on separate weekends.
The "if" was taken out of context. Point is, i'm not interested in Hop-Charlo and just learned about that fight with this thread. Perez, I don't know much about, hence "I wouldn't miss a Gamboa performance" and referring to the fight as a "Gamboa fight" rather than Gamboa-Perez. It's just watching Gamboa that I am excited about.
