Some people say that Golovkin reminds them of Kostya Tszyu. Probably this is due to the fact that Kostya Tszyu is also of a mixed korean and russian blood (though in Kostya`s case, the Russian half is from his mother).

:thumbsupNo probs, M8, Just hate all the racist crap on here and can be oversensitive sometimes.

Like you, I don't give a **** where a fighter is from, their colour or ethnicity, its what they do in the ring and how they present themselves out of it that makes me a fan.

PS sorry for the little bump but i've been away a few days.

I figure its more a similarity of style, both have good solid technique, great power in both hands, and are come-forward, pressure fighters.

Also, physically both are fairly stocky and powerfully built, and both have that schoolboy smile and youthful appearance.

More importantly why are white people (Western European) unable to distinguish between ETHNICITY and NATIONALITY

No wonder all ethnic groups look the same to you people

To me his quarter russian, quarter korean

Quarter kazak, quarter whatever you want him to be.

  7. Golovkin is from German heritage. His fathers family were German resettlers like 70% of Kazakhstan. This is the reason Golovkin speaks German and his residence is in Stuttgart.

Pretty sure his mother is half korean and half ethnic Russian/Kazakh whatever the hell. Does it really matter?

Why are black posters so hung up on what race he is?

They seem bizarrely DELIGHTED that GGG is half-Korean. As if that proves a point or something?

It's sad really, that they can't enjoy the sport without letting their racial bias get in the way. GGG is one of my favourite boxers and would be regardless of his race.

I am Kazakh, I just see nothing I can add to what's been said above, but if you have anything more to ask or clarify, I'll contribute with pleasure.

Here's the video of Klichko brothers, they visited Kazakhstan as guests on AIBA world amateur championship in Astana a week ago, and then travelled to Taraz city in Western Kazakhstan where they spent a part of their childhood:

Funny to see this ol' thread get dragged back, blinking, into the sun.

But yeah, there is a number of black posters who find it (or make it) an issue, but equally there is some white racist posters who make it an issue too, and are just as, if not more provocative - I kinda feel the best thing is to let it lie until you feel the racial aspect from either camp completely derails a thread, then just hassle the mods 'til they do summin' about it.

Sad to see this racist **** getting in the way of discussing the sport we love but I guess it's everywhere, with (ironically) the racial 'mixing pot' of the US being amongst the most actively racist. Though I've got to admit the UK ain't far behind (as a joint Hellenic - UK national).

EDIT part of the problem is there exist a number of actively pro - white racist sites (such as caste football) who 'annoint' certain sportsmen as being 'racially acceptable' including many successful fighters from the ex SU. Once this has been done, I can kinda see how some racially aware black fans are going to consider anyone who supports these guys as a potential racist, whilst, in the majority of cases simply antagonising genuine fans.
