Welsh legend Joe Calzaghe fuming over Carl Frochs Best of British claim By James Slater Fight fans almost certainly knew it was coming! some backlash and criticism aimed at Carl Froch after The Cobra made his recent its between me and Lennox Lewis claim as regards to who the greatest British fighter in history is. No sooner did BBC Sport report this news did the arguments start. For though millions of fans both rate and respect the IBF/WBA 168-pound king, many more still cannot rate Froch above British greats such as, well, such as Joe Calzaghe. And Calzaghe himself, in speaking with South Wales Argus writer Michael Pearlman, has vented his anger over Frochs lofty claim. Its an absolute joke of a comment, Id just like to let it go, but to me is an attack on myself and several other great British boxers, Calzaghe said. The guy is highly, highly delusional if he believes that. After what? Beating Mikkel Kessler who has effectively been semi-retired for three years and is well short of his prime? And only that was to even the score. Carl is not even the best super-middleweight in the world today. If hes the best British boxer of all-time, does that mean Andre Ward is twice as good as any boxer weve ever produced? Where is Carls era of dominance? Plus, I think its pathetic trying to write your own legacy. Its not up to me to judge where I am, or for Carl to judge where he is. Its for others to decide. Calzaghe, who retired with a perfect 46-0 (32) record in 2008, went on to say that the quality of Frochs opposition is overstated massively, asking whether or not Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell, for two of Frochs victims, are really world class. Calzaghe, today content in retirement at age 41 and having no desire to make a ring return, is sure he would have beaten Froch had the two ever met. The Pride of Wales also commented on how Wards team have been trying to coax him back into action. I had Andre Wards people trying to get me out of retirement this week, four years gone and people are still talking about me, I suppose its nice really, he said. Calzaghe is no doubt correct: it is for the historians to rank a boxer. Lets wait and see how much more Froch can achieve before hes done. Maybe, three years or so from now, fans will be willing to accept the Nottingham heros claims.
Fact is, Froch will always be remembered even after retirement. Calzaghe came and left yet no one(except for 3 fans and 10 trolls) knew nor give a damn. Froch went after all challenges in his division and traveled when necessary, Calzaghe stayed into hiding all his career and only decided to move for carefully selected ancient monuments like Hopkins and RJJ.
Joe Calzaghe. what an insecure little piece of ****! Does the attention have to be on him 24-7? Can't he allow anyone to have their 15 minutes of fame? Can't this ****ing Welsh trash show even one inkling of class? **** that guy, he can take his 46-0 and cram it up his coke crapping ass.
How is he delusional?, he's backing up his claims. It's Calzaghe who's delusional and clearly jealous. Calzaghe's entire career is based off three wins, Lacy, 44 year old Hopkins and Kessler. It's not Froch's problem his record mops the floor with Calzaghe's. It's well-known that the British press appreciates their athletes regardless of achievements or records yet Calzaghe was barely given a damn about till very late in his career. There's an obvious reason behind that.
Even Cazaghes daddy is p!ssed off with Froch Froch needs a shrink! Calzaghe Snr launches astonishing rant after rival claims to be second-best British fighter of all time PUBLISHED: 10:58, 30 May 2013 | UPDATED: 13:00, 30 May 2013 Enzo Calzaghe has launched a scathing attack on Carl Froch, comparing him to a pub brawler and questioning his sanity. Froch won a thrilling super-middleweight fight against Mikkel Kessler last weekend, but his claims that only Lennox Lewis can rival him in the list of all-time great British boxers has riled Calzaghe. The Italy-born trainer, whose son Joe ruled the 168-pound division before retiring undefeated in 2009, slammed those suggestions on Twitter this morning.
He's definitely more skilled but sadly his record is too crap and is incomparable with Froch's at this point. It's one thing to have ability and another to display it against serious opposition. Anyone can look like Sugar Ray Robinson against opponents with no hope in hell.
I don't think anyone can argue with that statement, I'm a huge Carl Froch fan but come on lets be realistic he's a distant 2nd to Andre Ward were as Calzaghe would of caused Ward all sorts of problems and more than likely beaten him. Froch's statements make no sense at all as he's still behind 5 or 6 all time British greats but he's definitely in the top 10.
