I think it's a personal preference thing. I used to do lots of boxing training and I couldn't incorporate weights into a routine because I felt slower and tighter. I know there is no physiological reason why this should be so, but it is how I felt at the time.
I have just started lifting weights again, and when I shadow box I feel slower. Another thing is the muscle soreness in my triceps seems to impede my movement. On the plus side I look better after only 2 months back on the weights.
On the subject of Robinson; I know Ray did standard training plus calisthenics, especially for his neck. Turpin did weights and was incredibly strong at Middleweight. I have seen footage of him doing the clean and jerk exercise and I have read he was devoted to bodybuilding as a young man. Robinson and Turpin won one fight each, so neither approach came out on top!
I wouldn't say I am anti-weights, because Nigel Benn used them to good effect. He used explosive movements and didn't lose mobility. If I were advising a boxer I would urge him to find someone suitably qualified to structure his programme.
    What do you think, Kinetic?

Well you dont see tigers, bears or lions weak as ****ing **** now do you?So if you want to translate this to the animal kingdom i would say that lions and tigers would be the first to hit the weighlifting room.
    So you fail.

Robinson did calesthenics. I doubt he lifted weights. That wasnt that popular back then.
