The man gave Lewis problems before getting caught by a hail mary shot (which was inevitable).

Of course, Bruno would do in a lot of heavyweights today, he'd probably be 2nd behind the Klitschkos, but surely up there. Todays division reeks of utter disappointment.

Realistically Bruno would banjax anyone at heavy just now besides the Klits; his ramrod jab and early round pressure would put Vitali on the back foot (which he wouldn't fancy) before Bruno would lose a close decision. I coudn't see him getting much success against Wlad as they're too similar with WK better in most departments tbh.

It barely needs to be said that he'd kill Haye. Actually kill him.

Yes - very. He was a beast. He just didnt learn defence that well and took shots he really should have slipped or covered up on.

Superhuman punching power, too chinny and turns into stumbling zombie after a few rounds due to bad stamina.

I'd love to see Bruno vs his current protégé the dangerous Deontay Wilder in what would be a fantastic battle between two African Americans. Brilliant fight between two lovely boxers with super human power. "I'd buy that for a dollar."

    Bruno was a top fighter.

He had two major issues, very poor stamina when in a tough fight because he was too muscular. Look at any of his fights that went 12 rounds, especially the last few rounds against McCall.

He had zero defence when hurt. When hurt he would freeze like a deer in headlights, walk back in a straight line and not hold and use ring crafts to recover. He would end up being stopped whilst out on his feet.

His career was ultimately defined by these two major weaknesses. Although he was the WBC HW champion for one fight, and most HW's never achieve as much.

The British nation also loved the man, one of the nicest men in boxing by a long way.

    Great post :good

Frank Bruno is a very good man, but 'only' a good boxer with his fair share of drawbacks. He would not be the one to dethrone Wlad.

I'd like to see him put out a few of the more uppity heavyweights of today though.

Spot on post. Bruno gets accused of having a glass jaw by some but he could take a punch. It was his stamina that let him down and the way he froze when hurt
Too muscular for a fighter which affected his fluidity.
Very strong , powerfull puncher , although didn't throw many combinatios , great jab and wasn't afraid to mix it up when he had to
Would do well in todays division. Probably lose to wlad but beats everyone else including current vitalli . Loses to younger vitalli

overrated if anything.he was barely any good at all. His biggest archievement at his overrated status as a fighter apparently is based on giving hard fight for few rounds against guys in past, lol. His best win is o.mccall ffs..

He would have a good chance against Vlad in the first 6 rounds - he would give Vlad some serious problems - Vitali would beat Frank comperhensively

An overrated fighter doesn't rock/stun prime Tyson in the first round, give Lewis hell and almost stop him and beat prime McCall who handed Lewis his first loss.

Unfortunately most remember Bruno for his losses rather than his actual ability. Most also think of the over muscled and past prime Bruno who beat McCall and lost to Tyson second time round.

At his best he was very good. My favourite fight of his was against Witherspoon, while he did lose he showed some decent skills and took some big shots early on without folding in that fight.

He was out boxing Lewis prior to losing, he hurt Tyson, was beating Witherspoon before tiring out. Superb jab, really heavy hands and real desire, he just lacked the instincts when hurt and the stamina though and against the top guys just didn't have the speed or athleticism to land his big shots.

In today's era he would be a top contender no doubt. He's much better than most of the Klits opponents, he would beat guys like Chisora, Arreola, Adamek and destroy guys like Mormeck, Wach and Panieta. Apart from the Klits I only give Haye a chance of beating him and even then only a punchers chance if Haye doesn't put him away early Bruno would actually do better later on in the fight as Haye has even worse stamina than Bruno.

Wlad would be too agile and fast for Bruno, Wlad KO's Bruno in the middle rounds. Vitali I think struggles with Bruno. Vitali doesn't have a huge speed advantage and the power to hurt him with one shot as Bruno's chin isn't any worse than Briggs. But Vitali's work rate would get to him, Vitali either wins comfortably on points or stops a tired Bruno late.

    If anything, Bruno was massively overrated ; he was good, skill-wise, but he got a very weak punch resistance;
But that doesn't matter to casual "fans" (=haters); all those peoples need is an appariscent personality and style, no matter stamina or chin.
