    Why was that?

The switch hitting gunslinger vs the man with no defence and no chin?

If you think Hatton chose a cherry pick to comeback I really don't know what to say to you , ( but I will try ) if anything Hatton IMO reached out too far by selecting him as a comeback opponent .

    True that

People saying Senchenko was a cherry pick dont have a clue what the **** theyre talking about.

Hatton was out of the ring for three years.

Interested to see Thaxtons fights here. How many people outside Norwich and possibly Sheffield had heard of him before he KOd Ryan, who was having a good run on TV.Then Burton, who wasn't a cherry pick in retrospect. That was some scrap.Laing against Buck Smith has been mentioned.Always point to that one when they say he's the best never to win a world title.Rubbish,Colin Jones would never have lost to Smith.
Dont know whether a cherry pick or an upset, but Stracey/Palomino,who drew with Lewis who John well beat the fight before. They certainly didn't know how good Carlos was.Massive mistake.

    :good

Thaxton too, although hardly the second coming of Pep, still had a bit of speed and solid chops as well. Three things Ryan did not need to fight against, particularly in a non title biding time fight...

Thaxton had just had that five round war with Dunne at the York Hall. A classic case of an unbeaten fighter learning and getting more credit in defeat.

But as you suggest Scrap Iron was supposedly the main man for their fight. And although his time at the top was short, I will always fondly remember Ryan. How could you not, as a boxing fan, love a power punching face first brawler with literally a chin worse than 99 year old Granny TBooze?

Stevie Cruz was a better boxer than people gave him credit for...not just a Texan 23 year old plumber.:good
