I remember this fight. It had everything except shuck and jive: Knockdowns, in-fighting, ebb and flow. I liked both fighters, but favored who I thought was the underdog---the older and shorter in reach and height---Bobby Chacon. Both guys had great knockdown percentages, and both were very well respected. It turned out to be "fight of the year." Check it out on a You Tube search.
It was the closest thing I could remember to Castilio-Corrales I, DD....Great Great bruising fight. Best example of how warriors leave everything they have in ring.
Wasn't around to see it when it happened, but its still one of my favorites. Just a shade below Chacon-Limon IV. That last second knockdown just edges Chacon-Limon IV ahead of the Boza-Edwards fight. Either way, this one ranks in that most rarified of air, with Castillo-Corrales, Morales-Barrera, Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson II, and Carbajal-Gonzalez I.
Indicently, 've always scored it for Boza by a round or two, but it was probably too close to call it a bad decision.
It was back to back fight of the year affairs involving one Bobby Chacon, following his 1982 fight of the year victory over Bazooka Limon(IV), and it was Boza Edwards second to last fight that took place at 130 before he moved up to 135 became a beast and also became one of the most avoided fighters/contenders at that weight for a good while before Hector "Macho" Camacho fought him and edged him out by a fairly close unanimous decision.
As i recall Boza suffered from new boots slipping on the canvas so on occassion couldnt get the purchase he wanted. In retrospect probably a blessing Brave Bobby did not deserve to take one ounce more punishment than he did.
