How would Joe Louis and Lennox Lewis do against the southpaws Wlad fought: Ibragimov, Byrd, Chagaev, Tony Thompson and Corrie Sanders. Both Louis and Lewis never fought southpaws and they hated left-handers as they admit in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=Fp9kjUm_6PI This content is protected
Stupid question that's not even based upon fact. Lennox Lewis has fought a southpaw called Greg Gorrel and easily beaten him but haters like to ignore that fact and spout bull**** saying he never fought a southpaw. So they can claim he ducked Byrd despite the fact nobody gave a damn about Byrd at that time as he was seen as an undersized paper champion who was boring to watch. Lewis clearly destroys all of them. Sanders wasn't even good enough to get a title shot during Lewis era despite turning pro around the same time as Lewis. Sanders only became a contender after beating Wlad prior to that he was never seen as a serious contender during the much stronger era or Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe and Tyson.
Byrd was known as one of the best heavyweights for many years. Sanders knocked out world class opponents, and Lewis himself said he never fought a southpaw and what he meant by that is that he never fought a world class southpaw. Gorrell was a cruiserweight basically. Furthermore it is funny how Lewis himself said that southpaws were giving him a super hard time during sparring and he is glad he never fought one during his title defences, but you think you know better than Lennox himself? Really? When did Chagaev, Ibragimov and Byrd ever get knocked out? Thinking about it only Byrd ever got knocked out if I am not mistaken.
It's impossible to say because there's really no historical parallel we can look at. Most heavyweight champions either never fought southpaws at all, or the ones they fought were so bad it gives no reflection on how they'd handle world class lefties. Lennox and Joe weren't the exceptions (notably, Holyfield was and lost to 3 different southpaws, and Moorer while in his prime). That's not to say I'd favor the southpaws Wlad fought over Joe and Lennox; just that we don't know either way. It's not likely that LL and JL would blow them all out of the water, either. I don't think Wlad gets enough credit for facing all the southpaws he has, though. Before him, it genuinely was harder for southpaw heavyweights to even get title shots....which is ridiculous.
i'd think harder think Ike Chagaev and Ibragimov hasn't fought anyone with the power of either Louis or Lewis. Not their fault but I don't see any evidence of them being up to taking huge shots.
Two things... 1)People who've fought both (like McCline) said Wlad hits harder than Lennox, and Wlad couldn't stop Ibragimov. Manny Steward said Wlad hits harder. And, Wlad has the higher KO % despite having 19 more fights. Any one of those arguments has counterpoints, but combined, I think there's plenty of evidence to say Wlad hits at least as hard as Lewis and likely harder. 2)Who ever landed many huge shots on Ibragimov to begin with? We're not talking about a stationary slugger with an open defense here.
He might of hit harder but Lewis could finish much better and has a lot more variety to him. Can't argue on Ibragimov as he really turtles up well.
Just think about the fact that Lewis even dropped his own belt, just to avoid having to fight Chris Byrd. To that list you can add Mike Tyson, he even never fought a relevant southpaw if i'm not mistaken; but seems that this was a common behaviour in the past.
