Does bigger hands mean more punching power?

No. I have really big hands and am extremely featherfisted.

That's asinine, if the fighter knows how to throw a punch he's put his body weight into it
which is equal regardless of fist size, so what I say holds up. someone with a bigger fist
does not throw more mass into the punch.

 

by the very definition, a bigger fist is going to throw more mass into a punch... youre not very good at this.

It's likely that the difference is quite marginal, but assuming the fighter is able to accelerate said fists to the same velocity (requiring force directly proportional to the mass of the fist and glove) one would expect the larger fist to do more damage over a larger area, since mass is a consequence of volume (assuming an equal density of flesh and bone) a cubic power, whereas pressure is a consequence of striking area, a square. In essence a 10cm cubed fist would do twice the damage as a 5cm cubed fist per unit area. This is the reason a mouse dropped from 30ft survives, whilst an elephant ..... erm....doesn't.

Of course these calculations assume that the fists mentioned are effectively independent bodies, like wrecking balls on the end of a chain, whereas punching just doesn't work like that and is driven ideally by the full body, and far more to do with technique than hand size - which I would say is substantially irrelevant in the scheme of things.

this is what i was trying to say in the simplest way possible and there are still people who get it confused.
the difference is very small because punching power relies on many other factors, but it would increase slightly. adamek would not punch harder than vitali if he had a slightly bigger hand than he has now, but he would punch just a little bit harder than he does now. thats why you can punch harder with a roll of quarters in your hand, because you are increasing the mass in the hand, which increases the force at impact. it seems pretty simple and easy to prove to me.

 

I've asked ESB about this and agree with the argument that smaller hands benefits body punching to make sense as the power of the punch should penetrate deeper into the body and causing more pain.
