Wow, another FOTY candidate!!! I had it for Maidana after 5 rounds, 48-47, giving Lopez the 1st and 4th rounds. I had not thought Maidana was right for 147, and I thought by the 3rd round, Lopez was showing he was physically superior, and that he was surely going to wear down Maidana as the fight progressed. But Maidana surprised me, he was able to consistently hit Lopez with HUGE punches, and Lopez disappointed me, he did not try to box Maidana, and he did not use his footwork to get out of trouble, especially in the corners. Lopez complained about the stoppage, but the replays, especially the one looking straight on at Lopez, showed he was hit with several bombs without defending himself, it was a great stoppage. Maidana has so many great options now, Matthysse would be great, but I think he has it all available to him, including a Mayweather fight! Finally, AWESOME to see Brian Kenny again!!! :D

I can see them pitting Maidana and Matthysse together for a Mayweather clash. I can't wait to watch the replay of these fights!

After watching the replay, I agree with Lopez's assessment there. However, there was no way for the ref to know the level of Josesito's hurtness(?) in the midst of that barrage from Maidana. It could have been better, but it wasn't horrible.

PS- I seem to remember Dr. Lou making a poor stoppage or 2 in the past. Any recollection?

I thought Lopez could have continued too but don't leave it in the hand of the ref if your hurt. Clinch, take a knee, or throw punches. Eating punches and not returning anything won't help your cause unless you have Steve Smoger refing.

Provodnikov vs Bradley only had 4 great rounds because of that Lebedev vs G.Jones tops it as foty up until now for me.

    1-Lebedev/Jones
    2-Provo/Bradley
    3-Maidana/Lopez
    4-Rios/Alverado

    imo

Man what a fight i thought Maidana was finished after 4th round, looked like he gave up but you have to give him credit he looked like man possessed in rounds 5 and 6.

I knew power would be the difference as Lopez was never going to fight defensive for 12 rounds, i like Lopez so i'm sad for hum but El Chino deserved it.

Lara's just not at that level. He's having tooth and nail fights with the Molina and Angulo and close fights with Vanes. That doesn't equal a guy schooling Canelo. It's not like he brings a style advantage to that fight, either.

There's a reason you don't see those "Lara would school Alvarez" threads popping up today. If his fans were truly encouraged that he could still easily take out Canelo after last nights performance, they'd be all over the first page of the forum.
